I would appreciate your prayers for comfort for mom, she is dealing with some serious pain and comfort for my dad, Don. I suppose it’s daunting to think about being without your spouse of almost 70 years! I think the reason they both have lived this long is because each one stayed alive to take care of the other. Mom saw to it that dad eat right and got the right medicine for his diabetes and heart, and dad did everything he could to help mom.

Since this original post there have been hundreds maybe thousands of prayers for my parents from AAPK alone, plus tens of thousands more prayers from friends of my parents. When I wrote this my mother was on hospice care and I was doubtful she would live until their anniversary in June 2018.
This last June, of 2019, my parents celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Mom celebrated her 90th birthday in November this year and dad celebrated his 90th birthday last week.
On Christmas Day my wife and picked up my parents and took them out to Christmas dinner. My sister and her husband joined us. We had a very nice dinner and a good visit with my parents.

Mom seems to have regained a bit of her strength, and I think is adapting to some of her limitations. It’s a bit harder for my dad; he has heart problems, which leave him feeling weak and tired. He does the laundry for mom and gets wood in for the stove and that leaves him feeling exhausted. But, despite their claim that they can’t remember things, they still have their minds intact, they love visits from their children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren, they are probably more in love now than they were when they got married 70 years ago and most importantly they love the Lord and have no fear for what comes next.

I don’t know if they will be gone tomorrow or they will live another five or 10 years. God didn’t give us a crystal ball so that we could foresee the future, and I’m thankful that he didn’t. I think it is better to live one day at a time in the presence of God.

Once again, thank you all for your prayers. If the Lord leads you to continue to pray for my mom and dad, I appreciate it and thank you. Whatever happens this year with my parents, I know the Lord has it all in His hand, He is in control!

Like you said Dale, God is in control of all things. I have an 87 year old mother in law and my mother is 86. Both are in poor health, but only God knows how much longer they will be with us, so I just live and cherish every day they are still with us. What I will do at this point is pray for you Dale, that you cherish every moment God gives you with them and that you will earnestly seek God's perfect peace and comfort. You already know you're not alone so lean on us too, let us be there for you. God Bless.
