This one's not really vintage but it is a Blackie Collins design. Sadly there will be no new designs from him.

Heres one my wife got me for my birthday. Its a Tawika Republic of Ireland.

That Case tool set is interesting, first one I have seen.

WB is that thing factory issue (if so by whom?) or is it something someone has assembled "post production" ? Never saw anything like it.

Phil, I've seen a couple with handles marked Strombecker and one other that had handles marked Revell. Both were strong influences in slot car racing in the 1960's. I think the bolsters are hollow and I've always thought they were probably built by whatever company was building the Sabre brand at that time. In this case, I'm not sure for who.

The slot car tool knives show up on Ebay with some frequency, I think I saw one within the last two - three weeks.
They do not look to be of any reasonable quality, as previously noted by WhiteBuffalo.
The one above with the jigged black handles is the first I've seen like that. Every other one I've ever noted on Ebay was a "Strombecker", as printed on one handle.

Between the mid 60' and the mid 70's, my home town had a competition grade 1/32 scale track. Roughly 200'-250' of 6 lane track running through mountains, valleys and across gorge's, it was quite a setup. In the early 70's they added an HO scale track. IIRC it cost about $3 an hour to run your cars during the week and they had competition races on Friday and Saturday nights. I think it was $5 to enter, with purses for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, based on the number of entry's. On a typical night, there would be anywhere from 30-50 people running and about that many entered to race on the weekends.
They also sold cars, accessories, upgrade parts and tools to work on various models. Their biggest sellers were the Revell models, but they carried some Strombecker and Lindberg cars and accessories, too. I don't remember ever seeing this type of tool there, but it was certainly one of the places where they would have sold them. Most of us just had individual tools in our kits.

Like Charlie said these turn up frequently on fleabay. Back a few years ago a guy had a lot of them in the original box unused,at first he was selling them for quite a bit of money then as he listed them one after another the price dramatically fell off, this is when I bought a couple of them cheap.

All but one of them had uncracked handles, all the rest never used in the box still had cracks in the handles, it looks like these were made quickly and the handles shrunk when fairly new, maybe this is why so many have turned up unused in the box, or they were just not popular or too expensive to buy. They are made in Japan at least the ones I have are, the one Rob posted I have not seen before.

I have been looking for an old AD to turn up advertising these in a magazine but have yet to see one.

i had been looking for a folding eating set for awhile. most i had seen were metal handles, cell, plastic and, pearl... not seeing many in bone or stag... but was able to get this set, more than likely missing the corkscrew, but happy with it..

I don't think that set ever had a corkscrew;most of the ones that do it is a part of the knife.I've never seen a stag set of these;must be very rare.Wusthof made some great sets.In this picture of slide together eating sets.the pearl handled one and the ivory handled one above it are made by Wusthof.

Here are some hobo's and tool kit knives. Case, Catt, NYK, Napanoch, Ulster, KA-BAR, Cammillus, Nagle. etc.

Nice stag utensil set, Cato. I imagine they originally came with a case or pouch of some kind? I like those slide together utensil sets, Ray. Wayne, great showing of hobos and tool kits, I especially like the Nagles.

As indicated on the blades, Napanoch patented this system January 29th, 1907.

I wonder how long they made them.

Hello Everybody.

How much would one of these sets with the original box and the chisel instead of the can opener be worth? Condition is near mint but there is a long tight pin crack on one scale.

Robert, a very wise, prolific and successful collector of knives and firearms once told me to buy as mint an item as possible and the time to buy it was when you see it.

That kit I posted went for a bit over four hundred dollars and had no box.

Don't know if a tight handle crack negates the box or not, but if you're talking about a Napanoch set with bone handles, in a pouch in a box, I'd be thinking four to six hundred bucks.

If available to you for less, it should already be enroute.

I managed to acquire the tool set along with a copy of Rhett Stidmans book and an older advertisement for the tool set as part of the lot. The only flaws are some wear on the box and the crack running from the bolster to the center pin. The set is completely unused and barely fondled.

Here's the rest of the pictures. The price was well within the $400-$600 range.

That Napanoch set is fabulous!! Wayne the Nagle's are really great and to find the pouch and box is almost impossible.
