Even old forged in USA knives can be sharp.

This sucker bit me today whilst trying to get a good picture of the tang stamp for another thread.. a little super glue and all’s good now.. In the third picture you can see him laughing in the background… Little bas@$#&!

I need to post to this one day

Snapped the tip the blade of my little marlinspike knife (made in Sheffield, England by Captain Currey for R. Murphy of Ayer, Mass.) shut on my right index finger tonight trying to work on the handle of a pole pruner trying to put the plastic handle back where it belongs at the end.

Not as bad as it looks. Tiny cut, but it bled more than what I thought it would. Went home, washed my hands, put on a Band-Aid, back to work.

Today's fallout from a little nip yesterday during Knife TLC Hour.

I'm hoping not to get bit again. I bought a pair of these gloves that are suppose
to be cut resistant. They have spandex, nylon, glass fiber, and polyester in them
and they are very comfortable, but will they keep my thumb or my palm from
getting cut again?

They will keep you from being cut but not from being stabbed.

You are absolutely right, but I haven't gotten stabbed yet, knock on wood.
I seem to get cut when cleaning and polishing knives. If they don't work I can
always use them doing yard work.

These work well when you remember to put em on first.

I bought this exact pair, for whittling. I don't have a lot of hours using them...but they fit pretty well and I'm getting used to wearing them. Starting to feel a little naked, if I start carving and don't have them on.

Red handles and red blood,was just doing some cleaning. And wouldn't U know ,got stabbed

I always said that a knife doesn’t get real sharp until it’s half wore out, well I proved it today. I touched up my most used knife, XX 6375, bone worn smooth, shield almost blank, and some blade loss. I went too close the spey and barely, I mean barely, touched the edge. Oh well, next time I have to use it on the stock I know it’s sharp! lol

Ouch! You got that right where it will irritate you for a day or two. I think the last two times I've been bit has been trying to get a picture with all 3 or 4 blades open. I'm about due again too. Wonder what stupid thing I'll do next time

It's kinda like my grandfather use to say about fishing with jigs in a stump row. If you ain't getting hung up every once in a while, you ain't fishing!! Same with knives, if you ain't getting cut from time to time, you ain't working with them. It happens.

I was up on a ladder in the basement replacing a drain line that was clogged Simon for 15’!!!! And that is no exaggeration, I have no idea how this line was draining at all.

It was cleaning up the end of a pipe with my Buck Spitfire and it slipped!!! I wrapped it in paper towel, finished the job, and then my boys told on me to the wife. Now I’m sitting in the urgent clinic . I told her I’d had worse briar scratches, and that’s when I got the look.

Bro. Wade, You should have daubed a little of that blue glue on it. That would have saved y'all a trip to the clinic.
I believe your wife was right, that one looks pretty deep. Hope it does give you any trouble.

I have done such before! Oh well, just got it glued up by the doc.

She asked me what I cut it on and I pulled out me knife and she laughed and me and then commented on how clean the cut was! I told her dull knives need not apply. She liked that.

TF, the old drain was that old ABS stuff and I replaced it with PVC. I did leave the bit that went through the floor since I didn’t want to fool with cutting that out. Where I got in trouble was cutting that bit of ABS off between the floor joists and didn’t get it quite straight. Hence I was whittling on it a bit.

I know it's an old thread, but it seemed the right spot to ask a question.

Do any of you guys wear the cut proof gloves ? Are they any good ? Specific brand to look for ?

Just asking cause I gave the pinky a nice slice w/ a utility knife blade. I was breaking down a Camillus Sword Brand "Streamline" for a custom, had a busted secondary but a really nice main. Oh, and it had cell handles that hadn't gassed yet, so they had to go ! Anyways I was doing the old trick of wedging the utility blade between the liners and tapping the frame down on the bench vise. Lil bastid let loose far earlier than expected, and my fingers were in the wrong position. Clean cut though. Bled a good while, but super glue fixed that. Like others here, I'm on blood thinners, and it's just a matter of time ya know ?

No pictures to show cause I was crunched for time. See, we have a "no sharp pointy things" policy when the wifey isn't home, so I had to get this leak stopped and covered before she gets home. I'm such a wuss ....

Yeah, it definitely isn't bad until the wife sees it. I am much more afraid of my wife than any knife blade.
I have some cut-resistant gloves for work, but I don't wear them when working on knives. It would probably be a good idea to try, though.

Toejammer ,had a chuckle reading your post. But seriously,hope finger is okay! Seems many of us have a scar or two. As to the glove ? My Wife(there’s the wife thing again ,LOL) bought me a pair after one of her scares ,tried them with good intentions. Just can’t get used to them though, do use them when buffing or at the belt sander, has saved some skin.

I've been looking at gloves on Amazon and they aren't too expensive, but they also don't look like you could do anything precise with them on. Guess I'll just have to roll the dice bare handed.

The only bad accident I've ever had was with a Stone River ceramic knife. Ceramic knives may be fragile, but that doesn't change the fact that they are sharp as heck!!

Cut a good gash in my index finger. Was afraid I'd have to get stitches.
