All About Pocket Knives

Monk, thats odd.
It's not right, I don't believe the knife is safe to have, send it to me, I'm headed to the Rendezvous soon so I'll have it in my pocket.... or, um, felt lined carrying case.
I'll make sure the folks over at GEC get a look at it.

My first GEC Beaver Tail. I think its also the only jigged wood knife I have Very slim, good grip, light in pocket, strong pull and came shaving sharp.

That's ""KOOL"" Trand !!!!!!!!!!!!! And that "'BEAVER SHIELD"" makes it "'KOOLER"" !!!!!! Do you know,the Beaver's name ?????

I don't know the beaver by name, but I do know cocobolo, and this is some purty stuff!I like this knife a lot; more like what I've come to expect from GEC. No frills or geegaws, just straight up quality that you can see and feel.

In other news... I heard today that the new 73 and 23 single blade variations are just going to have a single crescent nail nick.

Now, about that cloud shield...

Now, about that cloud shield...

I'm hoping they'll do the single blade 73 in cocobolo. I like the no fluff look also & without the blade etch. To my eye these look best with a single nail nick. Yours looks great with that shield, IMO. I think I prefer that one to the similar shield with "Tidioute" stamped into it. The cloud shields they typically use on the N'fields, no? You don't like those?

Looks like they've got quite a few others on the schedule before they do the single blade 73s...

I like the plain shield "wienie" better than the embossed variety on the Tidioutes, personally. I also like the "cloud" shield OK, I just think it's been a little overused. I think it should be reserved for the extra fancy models they come out with, like those handled in mammoth ivory or LVS abalone, etc. Actually, I think the shields look a lot better with no name embossed on them. A nice "gimp" shield would be a better look, or even a plain bar shield. But the bottom line is that these "bells and whistles", such as double pulls, ringed and pinched bolsters, etc., should be added carefully, as they are easily overdone.

My first GEC with a wooden handle............these little #25's sure are nice, in about every
configuration they are offered in. Thanks BigDonDon for this one.

Gunstock - I agree that the 'bells and whistles' should be used carefully and you are exactly
right on the shield issue, hard to beat a 'basic' shield, especially a bar style.

Thanks Barry.My pics don't really do it justice,its a show stopper in hand. Snapped these jus a few minutes too early,sun/cloud cover ratio was just right a tad later but I needed to make some tracks for work. I know what you mean about finding nicely figured Snakewood,difficult.

The toothpick and half congress started off with different pants but now they're wearing desert ironwood. I finally found an EDC half congress I was looking for to have modified before I gave up and used a regular one. I got this one in case I decide to do something different again but its nice in its own right.

I love the ironwood treatment, Trand! Very nice pair!!
