Written and recorded by Kris Kristofferson, I could never figure out why I have such a strong mental link between "Why Me" and "Sunday Morning Coming Down". I discovered the following on Wikipedia and it turns out, I'm not the only one who feels that way. "Country music historian Bill Malone wrote,'Why Me, Lord'" - as the song is sometimes known - "may seem greatly out of character for Kristofferson, but it can be interpreted as his own personal religious rephrasing of 'Sunday Morning Coming Down.' Seeing you mentioned Texas Ruby, I came up with a couple more names from way back. Uncle Dave Macon and Deford Bailey. Kinda interesting that Uncle Dave never got in to entertainment until in his 50's. Deford was the first black man to perform at the Ryman Auditorium.

According to the comments on the song it is the "Prairie Rose Wranglers" with Stu Stuart doing the lead singing.

My favorite Cajun performers, Dewey and Rodney, the Balfa Brothers. Love that "Chanky-Chank" Sadly, both Dewey and Rodney are gone now.

I wasn't familiar with Lew DeWitt's career after he left the Statler Brothers so I had never heard Welcome To The Holiday Inn or Wanda Glenn

Some say Lew DeWitt did not like songs with sexual context and when (rumor has it) Harold Reid insisted they do "Bed of Roses" because "it sells", the die had been cast for DeWitt's departure. Personally, I don't see much difference between his "Welcome To The Holiday Inn" and "Bed Of Roses" but then again, I'm not him. Possibly descension had been brewing for some time???? Bed Of Roses

I love that acoustic sound. Electrified isn't wrong and it has it's place but now and then, for some stuff, acoustic is the only thing that will do.
