Custom Case “Oar Carver”

Post by C-WADE7 »

I was given a mini trapper with a broken clip point blade and cracked handle scale. I also had a couple D2 Oar carver blades off the bay, so I figured we would see if it fits. It took some slight filing to get fitment right but all in all I’m very happy. Removed the center liner and made it a 1 blade and made new palm wood scales.

Great job!

I'd love to see how the Oar Carver blade would be as a secondary alongside the clip or Wharncliffe blade. One thing I dislike about the modern 07, is that the modern "Mini Trapper" doesn't have the pen blade like the original 07 "Dogleg Jack".

I almost left the Spey blade but it isn’t useful for carving. I really wish I could find the other style oar carver whittling blade but none have came up.

That turned out great!
I agree that leaving the spey blade in would have made the knife . . . Wrong, somehow. Too big a difference in blade sizes and styles, or something like that.

Save that spey for a separate project, though. There are some good mods out there for Case blades:

Nice Work! That "Palm Wood" looks really cool. I may have to try some. Where did you get it? ::tu:: ::tu::

Thanks for the links Reverend the Wharncliffe or the Spey turned coping blade would be handy for a whittling knife.

A friend at work, who does the knife work on these with me, has a cousin who does ornate wood work boxes and it was some scrap he had. I have seen it online though also. It has long coarse grain so be careful drilling out pin holes.

We’ve been trying to get a name picked for it, I just can’t get Case and Queen blended together good. For now it’s the Case Carver.
