Indoors Surface To Air Cutlery Pictures. Why?

Post by New_Windsor_NY »

I'm just curious. What is the reasoning or logic behind holding a sharp piece of cutlery in the air,
indoors, hopefully NOT directly above your head, to photograph it? What am I missing? I've seen many
examples of this and I just don't get it. This is NOT a criticism of anyone.

That's a possibility. But I've seen some pictures on eBay and other sites involving knives, where you can see part of a hand or a part of a finger, holding the camera, in the picture. My curiosity is more about, why a "looking up" picture, than how the picture was taken. Do you have an interesting ceiling? Do you want to become a "hand model?" I can see if the picture is taken outside. Holding a knife up, with the sky, trees, whatever as a background, very nice. But indoors, again, just a minor curiosity. If this starts a bunch of b.s., that wasn't my intention.

So, you are asking why "surface to air" handheld cutlery pictures as opposed to "air to surface" footheld cutlery pictures, right?
::facepalm::
Sorry, Skip, I guess I have no answer to that one.

I agree with scoutknives. People using a web cam or laptop cam and holding it up to get more light for focus, or up to a lighter background.

Using the webcam to take a picture, and probably don't want their mug shot in the frame.
Better than a lot of the still photography out there . . .

In my case, the Canon DSLR camera is mounted in a copy stand facing down with the distance fixed above the table for shooting the complete knife with blades open. If I want to take a macro closeup of the tang stamp, I hold it in hand up closer to the camera. Just my method.

:lol: Is this is going to start a trend of people doing this on eBay & the AAPK store? I'll admit. If I'd seen it on eBay, I'd click ... if on the AAPK store, probably start on a policy update :lol:

Thanks for the plug Nick, ::tu:: but believe me I'd much rather use a mobile phone camera and not have my beat up fingers in every shot, problem is I don't have any other use for a mobile phone. ::shrug:: 8)
