Case tested muskrat valve?

Post by Pawn1 »

I am curious of value because you hardly ever see these come on the market, so I can’t use completed listings to find a value. An I know because of condition it will probably only bring 20 to 30 percent of the mint Value price. I just wanted someone that knows more than me to give their opinion

Thank you I appreciate your input! I’m a fan of the muskrat myself an when I started collecting case knives I soon realized this was a grail case knife an I figured I would never have a chance to get my hands on a tested one because you very rarely see a true one come on the market. I’m just curious if I paid too much in this condition or if I’m ok?

Although I don’t pack one often, I’ve always loved the muskrat pattern. Yours is real nice!! A jewel for sure.

I can’t help you with the collector value at all. But I remember the real estate classes I had in college where the professor drilled into our heads the definition of fair market value.

“The price one party is willing to pay and another party willing to accept, neither party being under duress.”

So I don’t worry much about collector book’s values. If I like it better than I liked my money, I’m happy. That’s enough for me.

Italics mine...I'd never heard that bit added before! Agreed about if I like an item better than I liked my money.

I cannot really give a fair value for this Muskrat, but checking auction listings that sold may give you at least a general idea. The problem with value guides is that, unless they are constantly updated, they can become obsolete in an eye-blink. I, personally, wouldn't worry about its monetary worth unless you're getting an insurance appraisal. It's definitely a keeper!

Dan I don’t know about everywhere, but here in Kentucky at least, that’s the legal definition as it’s stated in the the Kentucky revised statues (state law).

Well, one thing you do know, they sure ain’t making any more just like it. And while not mint it’s sure does look good for its age. The blade loss isn’t bad, and the crack is easily stabilized with some Zap a Gap pink.

So if it trips your trigger I’d say it’s worth it.

Zap-a-Gap. Great for filling in cracks and stabilizing. Thin, medium or thick. I use all 3, depending on how wide the crack is. Clean the crack first with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip and maybe a sharp sewing needle if it is wider.
Don't get it on your fingers!!!

The glue isn’t pink, it’s clear. The label on the thin formulation is pink, that’s why we call it zap a gap pink.

I squeeze a little bit in to a coke bottle top and dip a tooth pick in it, then trace the crack. It’ll wick right down in the crack and slowly fill it, stabilizing the crack. It’s thin as water.

I am no expert, but I think you did OK in your purchase. The knife is old but
in great condition. If you really like it then it is worth the price you paid.
If you like it just OK, and would not mind no longer seeing it, you can
try to sell it and hopefully get most of your money back after everything is
deducted ( as on eBay for example).

I have a 2007 stag Muskrat. I like it very much. Going out this evening in
a few minutes-- will take it with me! Thanks for the reminder.
