Odd Knife
Odd Knife
I contacted this seller and suggested he had a ball pull knife. He says he checked and it isn't like that. Any other ideas?

Re: Odd Knife
Bob, could be it was a pull ball of some type but no longer works. I certainly has the look af a pull ball but I can see no blade tip cover or throw spring in the pics. If a non-working pull ball no makers marks and $150 is one of many eBay fishing expeditions.
Could be as he says and it is a rotary phone dial assist knife. They did make pens and pencils for this but I've never heard of or seen a knife.

If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

I remember ball point pens with a ball like that on them for use when dialing a phone, especially in offices.

Re: Odd Knife
You may have misunderstood my post Tom. I was saying that if you used the ball-end of the knife to dial a call, you might cut yourself on the knife-end of the knife while dialing. Was actually a dumb joke on my part too, and it'll put an end to my career as a comedian!

Re: Odd Knife
Just saw this on Ebay and notice it is made with a lip to fit into the hole on a rotary phone dial. The ball on the knife is not made that way and I'm inclined to agree with the idea the ball wouldn't go into the hole at all. I don't know the purpose of the knife, but think rotary phone aid isn't likely.

Re: Odd Knife
It says right in the description that it's a rotary phone dialing aid Bob, and, I searched another one and it had the same description. I believe the "lip" is to catch on the edge of the hole, without the ball part fitting into the hole at all, then drag the dial around the face of the phone, but who knows for sure.
