Case xx 63047 measurement closed

Post by Hesmikeb »

I have 3 70s 63047 patterns that all measure 4 inches closed....I've seen some for sale that say the measurement is 3 7/8....are there variations within the same pattern number?

You are correct in that a 63047 is 4” long. But a 6347 is 3 7/8” long, that’s probably what you’re seeing.

Additionally you’re 047 knives have a more slender California clip blade, while the 47 patter has a traditional, wider clip blade.

While I love both patterns, the discontinued 047 is a personal favorite of mine. We would love to see pictures of your knives!

When I carefully measure each pattern, I get 3-7/8" closed for the 6347 and 3-15/16" closed for the 63047.

So they really were made on different tooling though with a similar appearance.

One thing I got into was I had a 64047 with a bad back handle. I bought a 6347 with bad blades thinking the handles would interchange and they will not. One is just a bit shorter than the other. You could make it work with some effort but they aren't the same.

Explanation for that...when Case changed the tooling for the 32 pattern from the original style 32 to the new 032, about 5,000 to 6,000 of each (two blade and three blade) were made with the new tooling but with the old pattern number (6232 and 6332), before Case started stamping the new (62032 and 63032) pattern numbers. So the ones with the new tooling but the old number are "transition" knives.

When Case makes such a slight change in a pattern could it be to incorporate parts, blades, ect. from another pattern? This would be cost effective and would not require new tooling. ::facepalm::
