Belt pouch sheath for a Remington R-1

Post by Rossr »

I played around and made this one up today. Belt loop pouch sheath. I had the Remington R-1 around the shop. Box had 1988 written on the back so maybe it's that year. Near as I can tell it was never used. Sheath has some stamping work lined with red leather and the back has oil tan on it figured I'd try it to see how it worked. Open to thoughts as always.

The flap is a little wide for my taste but it's a very good looking sheath. Stitching looks solid and well spaced. I also like this red strip to cover the top. Nicely done. ::nod::

Thanks Mike.

It's funny the pics make the flap look much wider but in reality.its just about the size of the main body. Proportion is so important in my opinion and I appreciate the feed back.

The red is leather rolled over and lining the Inside it's also stitched in place under the rolled and then glued.

Great job! It is a very well-done, and intricate design. At present, nearly all my sheaths are the factory option or "one size fits most a certain size or under" that are dirt cheap. And given how long they last, no matter why they're cheap. You've used great quality hardware, stitching, and the best loop setup there is.

I've been meaning to buy a knife with a choke tube tool to carry as a secondary hunting carry, and right now, the model I like best is the brother to this knife, the Camillus/Remington R2, which has four blades and the same Lg. Stockman frame. The main and choke tool are the same on this knife, but it has a serrated blade and pin punch (between it and the SD on the choke tool, I can tear down my shotgun completely--since it being an older inexpensive Ithaca from the late '70s, there's just slotted screws). With deer, I don't need the bird hook. It's not as common as the R1 it seems, unfortunately, and thus a little bit more expensive.

Read my post on your thread Camillus#23 belt sheath with inlay. When you read it you will see what i mean. The knife you have posted here looks too good to scratch up. ::teary_eyes::

Lol I just responded to that! No worries the red leather which I think is deer skin lines the entire other side. You cant see it obviously. I learned how to do this from Paul Longs videos about sheath making. He is a master sheath maker. I dont know him and have no affiliation with him but his videos are really informative. That red liner is stitched then contact cement and rolled over the whole back. I put the stud and snap in prior and cover it with the liner thus protecting the knife!

Too bad it's not the R2. I may sell this off. I even have the box and instructions with this one. I dont think.it was ever used. I hunt but never even used a bird hook. I also dont bird hunt much anyway. It is a sharp looking knife though.

Thanks for rhe kind words
