U.S.A. only on tang

Post by Gone2Three »

Good morning friends, it's been a little while since I'd been looking at knives to buy. Was called back from furlough recently, plenty of hours available so getting some cash flow again.
Anyways.... the reason for this post is a question about a U.S.A. tang stamp on a blade of the knife. No other markings, looks like carbon blades older knife maybe. Just wanted to see if someone might know what maker used the stamp.
Appreciate it, hope y'all are doing well. Hoping to start back on adding some new knives to the stash ::super_happy::

Looks like Colonial.
A picture of the entire knife could confirm.

I agree with edge213 looks to be a Colonial product.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

That isn't a "X" on the tang stamp with "IDEAL", it's the word "THE." The tang stamp reads, THE IDEAL - U.S.A.

Levine's 4th ed says Ideal Knife Co trademark IDEAL/U.S.A. was located in Providence, RI operated from 1926-c. 1986

My one and only "The Ideal - U.S.A." pocket knife. It has two blades and measures 3 1/8" closed, 5 1/4" with main blade open. It has so many traits of a Colonial made pocket knife.

That last one does look a lot like a Colonial.
Which is great to me - most older Colonial knives that I have looked at are pretty good knives. They often used some cheaper manufacturing techniques, but they hold together and the blades were good steel.

Nice. I don't know why, but I like the tipped bolster knives. ::tu::
