Trying to find information on this old knife

Post by Gone2Three »

Howdy everyone, just wanted to see if I could acquire some expert information on this old knife I purchased from a person whose spouse collected. Also not sure of the value, but hoping it's worth something... thank you for any information you can provide.

Here's what Goin's Encyclopedia of Cutlery Markings has for that tang stamp;

A.W. Wadsworth & Sons Germany

c. 1905-1936 A trademark used by A. Kastor & Brothers.

(Please note, some of these Wadsworth knives also have "XLNT" stamped on the back of the tang. )

That's a nice knife in good condition as far as I can tell from the photos. It would make a nice addition to most collections. Ebay sold listings would be your best and most accurate source for current price information.

Thank you for your quick response! So that makes it my oldest knife in the collection I've started.... I'll see what I can find out on it's value.
In the meantime if there's any other details, please chime in.
Regards,

One thing I did notice on this knife is that one of the little pins (Sorry if I'm calling it a wrong term) holding the bone handles is raised enough that you can feel it when you touch it. Is this common for the age? Can it be fixed or just leave it?... inquiring minds want to know

That is a normal condition for bone handled knives.I would just leave it be unless it is bothering you to hold the knife.

That is a beautiful knife! Such fine patina on that good steel, and I love the look of the softly worn bone handles. That is a fine one to show off!

Older German bone handle 2 blade Jacks are reasonably common. Only a few knife collectors in USA collect vintage German knives so value is not high. Auctioned on ebay it would bring around $35-$40 (on average).

Thank you all for the additional information, advice and complements on my new to me knife.
Haven't seen too many like it, but I'm sure they are others out there. Paid $50 shipped, so that's on par with what was said....I loved the way it looked so it's worth it!

Blades look full and the bone is very attractive. It is a fine vintage knife, a bit nicer than most of the vintage German jack knives so i'd say $50 which includes shipping, is fair to both.
