I wonder if "Vintage red bone" would be an even better description ... as many (myself included) have never seen a truly vintage example like you posted in the flesh. It sure is different than modern red bone & very easy to distinguish by color and jigging pattern ::tu::

This is a 1972 (8 dots) 6318 that I have carried off and on for years. It has “regular” bone on the mark side, and red bone on the pile side.

To answer your question Paul, in my experience, real Redbone is a Case who's handles contain about 90% red throughout. If you look on eBay, if the handle on a Case has even a hint of red in the color, they automatically call it Redbone. It's not. I've seen this a thousand times over.

I think sellers just call it Redbone because it increases the chance of a sale. Of all my older Case, I think I have only 2 that I would consider true Redbone. All the others have some red in them, but not in the amount that I would consider to be true Redbone. I consider those to be red-ish.
