Buck Knives made in???

Post by Charles Hardman »

Hey folks.

I am a bit confused about Buck Knives and their origin.
Actually, I am going to buy folding 110 Hunter for my EDC, but most people claim they are made in China. However the brand is US for 100%.

It doesn't really matter where they are made...it's about the quality of a product, is it US quality or ....?

Most review websites and relevant forums recomend Buck or Kershaw as EDC choice, some even said they live for 40+ years

But I would appreciate if someone here say smth like "I had one of these, this is awesome" - nonthing more

Thanks!

I think It depends on the pattern and when they were made.

I am sure that all 110s are made in the good old USA.

Welcome to AAPK. The Buck 110 is an iconic knife and will serve you well as an EDC. Kershaw also makes a fine knife but most are made in Japan I believe. As for knives lasting 40 years, with just a quick look around on this forum you’ll find knives that are 100 years old and more and have served their owners well. Just use the knife as it was made to be used - a knife. Not as a hammer, screwdriver, pry bar or a substitute for another tool. Sharpen it correctly, clean it occasionally and put a drop of oil in the joints every month or two. Any well made knife properly used and cared for should last a lifetime, and you should be able to leave it to your heirs for them to use as well. ::tu::

Take a look at the knives available from the stores here on AAPK. I bet you can find a good deal, on a good knife!

Buck 110 has always been made in the USA. Easy way to tell if a Buck is made overseas is that there won't be a "USA" on the tang stamp (underneath the model number). Also Buck puts an American flag on their packaging for all their USA made knives.

I agree. All 110’s have always been made in the USA. For a while they came with Mexico made sheaths but now even the sheaths are made in USA.

You cannot go wrong buying a Buck 110.

Thank you, Ken

I agree, it's doesn't matter if it's Japan, China or whatever...it's about quality!

For example, Gerber Kukri machettes also being produced in China and imported to the US through Canada, where they are rebranded to Gerber. But kukris' original manufacturer is Fiskars (finnish company that makes hatchets, axes, knives etc...) That's how it works...Current marketing realities urge manufacturers to create parts of their products in countries where workforce is much cheaper. This give them an opportunity to save quality and brand reputation as a result, I believe.

American made knife manufacturer BUCK KNIVES has been in the game for longer than most people can remember. Since 1902 they have been slowly developing a reputation for providing some of the sharpest, strongest, and most stylish knives around, and doing it all with quality steel in the good old U.S. of A.

I mean, Even if 110 Hunter was in the list of China made knives I would consider buyng it anyway

As far as quality is concerned, the country of origin doesn't matter. What matters is whether the company that is contracting the knife cares about the materials, construction process and quality control. Those that do, like Buck, Kershaw, AG Russell, etc have excellent knives. Those that don't, well, those are at the gas station mini marts and swap meets...

I've always been impressed by the quality of the Buck knives. I just wonder how much effort it took to snap a blade like this? Surely above and beyond normal use.

Judging from the other photos on that ebay listing it looks like that broken 119 was deliberate. The other knife in that listing is missing scales and the sheath for the 119 is missing closure. There is a difference in knife use and knife abuse.
