Does anyone else has a Case 6383 2 Dot (1978)

Having a Hard time finding this knife, I believe this is a Whittler, I've seen a couple of these as a little prettier bone handle than this one. this I've had for 30 + years never touched it, except put put some oil in the joints, This is a very strong snappy knife! Chime in, to what you think of this knife, as Value, hard to find a knife such as this one, sorry the pictures are not I'd like it to be.

Don’t think I have a 1978 but I have a couple other dotted 6383s. 6383s from late 1970s show up on eBay occasionally so you should be able to find some comparable values from sold listings there. Ten dots (1970) bring a premium over the rest, but those from later in that decade are pretty much the same value (little or no value difference in a 1975 vs a 1978 for example). Depending of course on condition. JMO

I assume, that for some reason, perhaps sentimental, you want to find a 1978 (2-dot) model. Here's a nice one for sale on the bay right now for $110, by a very reputable seller (that we all know):

I have wondered why the 10-dot 1970's seem to fetch a higher price than other, identical 1971 -1979 Case knives. Perhaps some people think the quality went down after 1970? I really don't have a clue.

1970 marked the change to the new Case date coding method, with introduction of the “dots” system. First time any cutlery company had intentionally done that. So in that sense it was historic. The ten dot knives were the first of that new era.

Nothing to do with quality. Case continued to produce quality knives through the 1970’s IMO.

I have always suspected that post 1969 Case knives are viewed as "modern" by many folks, and with exception of the "special" case of 1970, are viewed as lower value. Seems a bit silly to me. I also think that many people automatically assume that the knife *they* have with a date range stamp (eg 1940-1964) MUST be a 1940. That is simply wishful thinking...

I own a couple (see user name) oddly my first 6383 was a 2 dot. they are great knives. I feel they are underestimated. value is not always the point to me but I've bought 2 dots from $35-$85 in the past never less never more. it depends on condition and the color of the bone. enjoy what you have!

Somewhere several years back, I read that this particular whittled was called a “ millworker” Whittleri. I think it has something to do with the tapered spacer in the back. Don’t know where I read it. Anyone else ever hear this?

This is the pattern that converted me from “accumulating” into “collecting”, back in the late 1960’s. Never heard of it or any other pattern called a millworker whittler before. The “spacer” has been commonly used construction for the “whittler” pattern, but why that would be associated with a millworker escapes me.
