Recent finds - some of my dad’s knives
My sister recently brought me a small box that she found in my deceased father’s closet. To my surprise it contained several knives that I had not seen before, and didn’t know he had. So I don’t know much about their history aside from what the knives themselves tell us. Here’s some pictures - as found condition, which in some cases is not too good. Not sure yet whether I’ll try to clean them up, or just try to stabilize them in their present state. The Case is mint but has some kind of “gunk” (maybe cosmoline?) on the blades. The Craftsman is still in the unopened blister pack.

Now that's what I call finding a real treasure. Even though you didn't know anything about them I hope they spark some good memories of your Dad. God Bless you Ken.

Your knives, of course and you might well wish to leave them as they are, but that Robeson cattle knife would look wonderful after a proper restoration by someone that knows how to go about it.
Although I suspect the color in your photos might not be accurate, it is still premium Robeson bone.

The 6392 is beautiful. I tried counting the dots but it get's a little blurry right about here. Click on the image to enlarge.

Re: Recent finds - some of my dad’s knives
Charlie, I had the same thought about the Robeson. Even though the blades are ruined, the handle covers are fantastic! How would you go about restoring, and do you have a recommendation of someone to do it? (send me a PM if you want).
Mike, it’s a ten dot. I am going to clean up that one. Just needs some solvent to get that thin coat of gunk off the blades, and I think she’ll be mint, or very close to it. Still has the Case printed brown vellum wrapper!
Thanks everyone for the kind comments. Dad passed away over 4 years ago so it was a real surprise to find them now.

Kan, I also think that based on the spacing, the 6392 is a 10 dot. What a cool find! I always start with WD-40 to see what I can gently clean off.

. There is a lot of history attached there, they are the classic cannot put a price on them, the family and emotional connection is priceless. Very happy for you mate. Have a good day.

Priceless knives for sure! The CASE of course is amazing, but the bone on the Robeson is outstanding.

Thanks for the comments everyone. They are indeed special as heirlooms. Not knowing anything about them from my dad, the thought occurred to me that some of them might have belonged to my grandfather.
Ken
Charlie, seeing your comment made me go back and take another look. I did use the iPad software to increase the brightness of the pictures, which could have affected the color. But actually they’re pretty much as you see them. Here are the unaltered pics. Not sure if it is “strawberry bone” - probably not - but there’s definitely red in it. The pile side has the worm-groove style jigging that I’ve always liked. Looks like a little of it on the mark side too.RobesonsRme.com wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2020 9:06 pm

Very nice folders especially since they were your late fathers knives Ken does that PocketEze have a pattern number on the back side tang of the master blade? Outstanding and beautiful jigged bone handles

Re: Recent finds - some of my dad’s knives
The only guy I know that could do that has retired.
He would have taken the blades off their tangs and welded on appropriately aged blades and you would not be able to tell.
You could check with our AAPK mechanics to see what they think.
I do not have any blades or parts knives myself.

Re: Recent finds - some of my dad’s knives
Thanks Charlie. Welding is probably the only way to restore it and save the tang markings. The only blade not marked is the punch, and oddly it’s the only unbroken one. Chances of finding a donor knife are probably one in a million. But I’ll keep on the watch. If any knife mechanics have a restoration solution please PM me.
