Henry Sears & Co = 1865-78
Henry Sears & Son = 1878-1959
By the looks of that knife, I'd believe it was made in the 1950's. Looks too new to be circa 1878.

Nice pen knife. I agree it looks too recent to be from the 1800s.

According to my C.H. Price, price guide, 14th ed. Henry Sears and son was bought in 1887 by Farwell, Ozmun,& Kirk. From 1897 to 1959 they used the"1865" stamping. The knives using that stamping "were made under contract by several prominent cutlery manufacturers." Thanks

The handles look similar to numerous C.F.Kasyer sample knives i had (until recently). All these knives were from well before WW II. I think most of the sample knives dated 1880's to ~ 1920's. Based on look of this horn this knife could have been made in 1920's and maybe earlier.
The 'knife handle merchants' in Solingen sold the same handle materials to most of the great many Solingen knife manufacturers.
Remember age and condition are different 'aspects' of a knife. Condition says little about age.

Re: HENRY SEARS GERMANY HALF WHITTLER
But you are not that much further ahead with dating this knife as we have a range from 1920's to 1950's. However this is typical of German knives. The manufacturers would make the identical knife for decades until it got discontinued. They did not make any slight design changes or change in tang markings so you usually can only date within a fairly long time span.
