HK With Boat Symbol - Can Anyone Help Identify?

Post by herbva »

All I see in Goins is H K (boat). Not much help. I think the scales are genuine MOP. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks! :D

Heckler and Koch came to mind immediately.

I very much doubt Hollingsworth Knife Co.

Looks foreign to me.

Nice knife. I like the pattern. ::tu::

The band in the middle of the handle allowing the use of small pieces of mother-of-pearl, it's something I have seen primarily on knives of German origin.

That is a very nice knife with a long main blade.
It must have a catch bit like this Robeson.

I'm thinking German too. I've had other German knives that appeared to have pins of a different color metal composition than the bolsters. And yes, it certainly does have a catch bit like the Robeson. So far, no positive ID on the HK & boat symbol.... :(

FWIW Levine's Guide lists the HK mark as belonging to Hollingsworth Knife Co. Nothing about a boat.

I doubt this is the same as the OP knife in question, which appears very similar in construction to a Premier I have that was made in Germany.

The below site has a mark listed for HK as Heinrich Krieghoff as a German maker of daggers. Searching Krieghoff produces a website for a company that mostly makes high end competition shotguns that has been in business since 1866. There is no mark with HK and a boat on the below website, though?

I think it is unlikely that the OP knife was made by Heinrich Krieghoff. I got a copy of "German Knife and Sword Makers" in the mail today. The only reference to Heinrich Krieghoff is that they bought out another company who made guns and bayonets. I paged through all 550+ pages of the book, paying particular attention in the K section, with no luck in finding the posted stamp. They were a number of makers with HK initials listed with no information as to stamps.

Dan, and everyone else, thanks very much for you efforts. I'm sure I will get this mystery resolved eventually! I know that I have seen this tang stamp before and the hobo knife currently on ebay has the exact same symbol. Thanks again. :D
