I remember when those first came out;the low serial numbered knives were very expensive for the time.Even the non-serialized knives were(I believe)$40 and they had different color handles.. For awhile the prices went through the roof and then people decided they didn't need a $200 stockman;no matter how pretty it looked. Haven't seen one for sale in a long time.

Reading up a bit on the knife in Ritchie & Stewart's 2003 book on page 456. First issued in 1971 supposedly 12,000(due to rejects possibly as many as 15,000),there were three grades of the knife:
Serial #'s 1-12 Premier grade-gold inlay bolsters and highly engraved blade.
Serial #s 13-100 Excelsior grade-engraved bolsters and etched blade(the original poster's knife is #67)
Serial #s 101-1,000 + Collector grade-blade etch only.
Issue price was $12.50 but it doesn't say whether that was for ALL of them.
Value as of 2003 was $1,400-$500-and $125 respectively.
As I recall people were actually paying exorbitant prices for them as they were touted as the first real commemorative collector knife which was a bit of hype. Although they don't list it here I seem to remember seeing them with dark blue or black handles.

This is from Stewart's The Standard Knife Collector's Guide Identification & Values, 6th Edition 2009. I find him to be inflated but not sure exactly how badly. At #00067 yours would be in his $500 range. Nice find!

I sold one just like it back in July on Ebay, mint condition, serial number 47. It went for $125 which I was pretty happy with. I think $200 is really pushing it. Now the gold edition would be another story, that's quite a prize.

I've always thought Stewart's prices for the most part were absolutely pie in the sky ridiculous.

I've seen dozens of these knives over the years and didn't realize until reading this that there were different varieties of them. Odd that all of the ones I've ever owned have been the ones with low value. I guess that's the way it goes. Good info here. Thanks for the post.
