New here- have a mystery knife
Hi All, I’m new here- first post. I like knives of all kinds- culinary, folding, fixed, anything interesting.
I was just given a folding knife with no discernible identifying marks. Looks like a horn or bone handle, and it’s fairly hefty. Handle is about 4-1/2”, blade about 3-5/8”. I’d dig any ideas or leads on who made this. Thanks, Tommy

Welcome here, Tommy.
Pretty sure your knife was made in Japan.
It looks like it is in better condition than most I have seen, including mine.

Thanks for the welcome and the info. Japan sounds like it. I got this and some others from my friend and father-in-law who was a Marine, deployed in Okinawa, Japan, the Phillippines in the 50's He may have gotten it there. I heard hundreds of his stories but this one slipped through the cracks.
He left me a few other very cool knives, one of them being a USMC WWII Kabar- incredible. Thanks again, Tommy

Definitely of Japanese origin right after WWII.What gives it away is the jigging pattern(looks like a series of diamonds similar to checkering on guns)and the brass bolsters. Many of them were unmarked but it might have been made by Ameke or Mitsoboshi who were two of the manufacturers of that era.Looks like a decent knife unlike a lot of the multi-blades that flowed out of there at the time.

Re: New here- have a mystery knife
The look of the jigged bone shows knife to be from Japan made not too long after WW II, 1950's, maybe to early '60's. More commonly seen are multiblade knives with spoon and fork in both a small and large size. There are pictures of these knives posted somewhere here in AAPK. If you find these pics you will recognize that the handles have the same jigged bone as your knife.

Re: New here- have a mystery knife
Thanks everyone. From what you folks have told me I'm deducing that that my father-in-law picked it up while deployed in Asia in early-mid-50's. He also left me a few TL-29s, those electrician's knives. He did printing and photo-lithography so they were probably issued to him.
I appreciate your help. As I'm trying to piece together parts of his life, the knives he acquired are a part of that picture. Plus he was into fishing , so there are those knives.

We would love to see more pictures of your knives if you can, Tommy.

You've been bitten! I've seen that tickler with the Pointer dog on the cover of a reference book somewhere, pretty cool!
Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

I like that tickler a lot. Feels good in my hand and takes a sharp edge. Of course I gave a bit of blood taking the shots- typical for me

Welcome to AAPK!
This is the best knife community out there, whether you sell knives, collect them, repair them, or just enjoy looking at the pictures and talking about them, this is the place!
You have a great collection there. Many of those can be family heirlooms if taken care of, and can be passed down for generations.
Thanks for sharing the pictures!
