Hey guys,
I recently bought this knife, I have been looking for one I could afford for a few years now..when I was a kid my grandfather had one of these and he prized it..i can remember it from my childhood I started going on hunting trips at age 7 and I was born in 1969 so i know his was from this era or before...I can't find information on these old knifes..i know there was a 503 wood..and a 504 stag..but this knife has a different model # on tang..is it older , newer a different size etc.any information would be very helpful..I think these Japan made knives are very well made and seem too demand a premium so someone must know something..lol

Agreed;a very beautiful knife! I have a couple of the early Browning USA and Japan knives and the quality is right up there. The two blade is a double lock back. The fixed blade is a Japanese model and has a tapered tang and file work.

Can't tell you much about your knife, but I have 3 pocket knives, one German made, and 2 US made, all really good quality. I think that is a brand that has been "flying under the radar" for some time. One large 2 blade trapper, one mini trapper also with two blades, and the German made knife is a 3 blade stockman. All have dark wooden handles, the trappers looks like cocobolo and the German may be ebony. Not sure of the age but were used when I got them 10 years ago. Terry

I believe the Browning knives marked "U.S.A." and "Germany" were made before the Browning Japan knives. According to Bernard Levine, the USA Brownings have the highest value and the ones made in Japan, the lowest, however the 'spread' is not great. I have owned Browning folders from all 3 countries and the workmanship is very good for all of them.
Note: having a higher value to collectors does not mean a better knife, just that more collectors want a certain knife, in this case USA made Brownings.
