Bonanza

Post by just bob »

There is discussion in another forum about the dissatisfaction Ebay is making in many of their policies. I was just on Pay Pal and they had a link to the online marketplace Bonanza. Has anyone ever tried this and what is your experience? I really like the AAPK stores and appreciate the work Bryan has put into building this up. I hope web traffic continues to increase and these stores become far more popular. The thing is here you only get people looking for pocket knives and the number of knife collectors seems to be dwindling.

Definitely worth a look. The only thing I don't like about a lot of these new places is that you have to sign-up before you can even search for something. I don't like that. I should be able to "browse" before I do anything at all.

It's like walking into an antique store and them telling you "Hey, you have to leave a credit card number first if you want to look around".

This topic reminds me of our visit to Las Vegas a few years ago.
While at the MGM Casino, we were downstairs checking out all the retail stores. Upon entering a candy store, we were greeted by an associate that handed us a shopping basket. We advised her that we were just "looking" she advised us that it was company policy that we must carry the basket while looking. ::dang::
Upon advising her how ridiculous this policy was, we left. (The store is no longer in business.)
It's always important to know what you don't know.

Update to previous post:

You can search without having to sign-up so I was incorrect. What I don't understand though, is why, when I type "Case XX knife" in the search box, not only does it show me Case knives for sale on that site, but also eBay as well. It's almost like a search engine.

I don't get it. Why would you show listings from a competitor?

Bob; where did you see the negatives about Ebay? I'm just wanting to find out what bad things they are doing now, as I am gearing up to put a lot of Ebay listings up.

This is dated and some of the bugs have been worked out, but this lists several.

For me the most negative thing is I can no longer have my money from my Ebay sales put directly into Pay Pal. After a certain date they must be sent to a bank account. The delays involved in this were discussed in another thread. For my part I consider Pay Pal to be much more secure than my local bank, though funds there have FDIC insurance the possibility of id theft increases with the more information you post on line. I've never had a problem. I use Norton and feel safe the way things are now. I just spoke with a guy this morning and he was the victim of ransomware on his computer. They demanded he purchase gift cards from Walmart or else they would shut his computer down. He told them to go ahead it was 5 years old anyway. Seems to me like these situations are becoming more common. Also a lot are squawking about having to accept credit cards and other forms on payment. I don't know a lot about that.

Apparently, PayPal is now promoting Bonanza as an eBay alternative. I just got this email earlier today. Honestly, I may be looking into it. Personally, in terms of online marketplaces, I mostly just buy from eBay and Etsy. eBay's dropping PayPal will definitely probably reduce what I buy from there. I've noticed my buying from here is picking up. Years ago, Bonanza seemed a little sketchy, but that was 3-4 years ago.
