When will Case reveal the new decade tang stamp ?

Post by Lansky1 »

I haven't been into knife collecting long enough to know how Case's release of a new decade tang stamp will roll out. Will be interesting to see what 2020 will bring (I've always liked the 2000 decade tang stamp best - that one is different and easily recognizable). Anybody that's been around knives longer than me know if this type of release comes with great fan fare or if on Jan 2, 2020 they just start pumping out knives with a new stamp ?
pffffft that's not a knife ......... now THAT'S a knife !! Crocodile Dundee

Yes, it will be interesting to see what they come up with. Whatever it is, I hope it's simple to read and understand. Can't be too much longer. ::pace::

I could swear someone on the Case Collectors Club forum asked the same question recently, but I can't find it now. ::facepalm:: IIRC someone from Case posted an answer, basically implied it won't be announced until late in the year and the employees don't know yet either.

As much tomfoolery and shenanigans as counterfeiters deploy, I frankly don't see any advantages to Case from early announcement. In fact I think I'd wait until January 1st!

Anyway I can't find the post. Maybe I just dreamed it.

I don't know all the history of Case and how they change their stamps. I hope they make it simple, maybe just write the date on it.

Something like this maybe.

Case actually did that in 1990.
Story goes that the 'collectors' did not like it and wanted the dots back.
So mid-year 1993 Case went back to dots. ......

I like ~Q~'s suggestion. Though not extremely attractive, it's simple yet efficient. They should have stuck with the full year stamp. The Collector's club would have gotten used to it and if sales sagged it would have only been briefly. Knife people are not going to jump ship over a little thing like that. The many suffer while they pander to the few or a classic example of the tail wagging the dog.

But what do I know. I'm not a Case aficionado/supporter.

While I do favor Case knives, I can honestly say that a tang stamp isn't something that gets me all in a tizzy.
It is what it is. It will be what it will be. If people are looking for a specific year, doesn't matter what the tang stamp looks like, just what the date is.

But that's me.

I think it's a marker of our own time as knife collectors - at some point you'll realize you just saw your last Case decade stamp design!!

I doubt they will go to something straightforward like actually placing numbers on the blade
for a year. Maybe something very traditional or old school?

Had a curiosity attack this morning and Goggled the Case 2020 tang stamp which led me here. It suddenly hit me that a late announcement leads to discussion of the possibilities which produces a lot of free publicity.

I'm speculating that Case will return to all dots this next decade (ala the 70's, 80's, 90's) but use a different variation of the word CASE. OH

Does anyone base their collection on "10 dot" knives only? That is, only knives from 1970, 1980, 1990, 2000, 2010, soon to be 2020?

If I understand your question correctly Steve, no I don't. I have a lot of the "10 dot" knives, but I look for and prefer the older case knives.

Nah. If anything, I'm a pattern guy. I'm also a generalist who grabs whatever I like, especially if it's cheap.

Interested to see what it will be, but what I'm really looking forward to is seeing what 2030 and 2040 tang stamps look like.

From what I've seen, it seems that only the 1970 10 Dot knives get a higher collector value/sales price. Maybe a little on the 1980 10 Dots but then it drops off. I don't think currently you would get more money out of a knife made in 1990, 2000 or 2010 as opposed to the other 9 years in the decade, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

It would certainly be unique and kinda cool to have all your knives with 10 dots, regardless of the decade.
