A combination letter opener, folding bone(for making envelopes before commercial ones were available)and quill knife. The W crown R at the top of the stamp indicates it was made in the time of King William(1830-1837).Nice old piece!

Re: Any help appreciated
I believe it is a non-folding quill knife for making pens from feather quills. K7K is correct on the date. I do not think the handle is thin enough for a letter opener and it would be dangerous to use the handle that way since quill knife blades were always very sharp.
Re: Any help appreciated
Thanks everyone for all the help and info It was a neat looking old piece, even though I didn't think it was that old, thanks again.

Non folding Quill knife is i believe correct. Jos. Rodgers & Sons made a similar one with the tip end of an elephant tusk for the handle. Yours is also ivory, likely elephant as well. Very nice old knife.

Hello all, I have some questions. So for the past 2 years ive carried a old timer 340t but seems like this year there's a little more rust on it. I love patina but not the rust any recommendation on what to do.

Re: Any help appreciated
If your Schrade 34OT is a USA made one (from before 2004) then the blades are carbon steel and need to be wiped dry after every use and then given a drop of mineral oil, spread over the blade surface. If you keep a thin coat of mineral oil on the blades it should prevent any more rust from developing.

Clean it up and coat it with Reniassance Wax. You can find it on Amazon, Walmart and plenty of other places. It's pretty ubiquitous.
