In between all the "hurry up and do's" last night, I got a chance to go back to my shop and take a picture of the WORKING (YAY!!!) Spring system. I had another thread where I was asking for help and (while looking back yesterday) Caleb was the one that had the idea that worked. SO.... without changing my pin locations I came up with this......

Because of the fact that pressing a lever in this position to release the blade didn't require much pressure, that meant the spring needed to be longer and thinner. So, now, onward toward the finishing of this knife.

The whole system mocked up....

There you go, there is nothin' like making the whole knife yourself. I just finished my first one recently, although it is a lot of work!!

I hadn't forgotten about this...and I think it's one of the neatest knives I've seen someone design and make. Glad to see it back on the bench! ::tu:: ::tu:: ::tu::

It was sitting on my bench all this time. I didn't want to mess it up (too bad)...... so I had to wait until I had the right solution for the spring. Yep, it is back and I hope to get a LOT done this weekend. I have some other things to do Saturday but I should have Sunday afternoon in my shop!

Well, as the curtain goes down on this build I have to say.... I learned a LOT and once the frustration with the spring situation was soothed, the build became fun again.

The more I worked out the final shape for the handle, the less I liked it. It just looked.... to phallic to me. SO.... I made a slight adjustment to the handle at the butt area.

This was after I did a lot of filing and sanding.
The basic final shape...

I pinned the 2 halves together temporarily and worked out the shape from there.

And so.... here she is...
(Please pardon my poor photographic skills...)

This joker is heavy in your pocket... SO, I will build a sheath for it at a later date.
Thanks for watching this build everyone!

One more pic for the road......

Yes, it's big and it's heavy.... Just way I like it!

Mike, thank you. Such an enjoyable experience to watch from start to finish. A very hefty knife. I look forward to seeing the pouch. The brass pins add to it I believe. Congrats on a great job. ::nod:: ::nod:: ::tu:: ::tu::

Thanks y'all...

And sorry it took so long to complete. It maybe took 4 or 5 work days to do it. I'll try to be a little more diligent from now on!
