Puma Rancher info
Puma Rancher info
Just got this Puma folding hunter type knife and I believe it is called a "Rancher". Information is a little hard to find. Does anyone know if this model is still made? It is 5 1/4" closed with two blades, one 4' clip and one 3 15/16". The master blade is stamped "Puma Germany" on one side and just "stainless" on the opposite side. No etch on the blade. Nice brown jig bone handle with the Puma round shield and a lanyard hole. My question is , Is this knife made in Germany or Spain? and about what time period. The few examples I have found have etching on the master blade. This one does not but has never been sharpened. Thanks in advance for any info. Terry

Terry, I don't have an answer for you but that's a great looking knife.

If it cuts as well as it looks then you have a winner.

I don’t know anything about Puma, but I know that’s a fine looking knife right there. Excellent!

Terry, I don't know if this helps or not but look to see if your knife has a control number on it (inside the blade well???) The charts only go up to 1982, but Puma has a dating page on their website. ---► https://pumaknifecompanyusa.com/knifeAge.aspx
How Old is My Knife?
Is there a 5-digit number impressed on your Puma knife? It is on the finger guard on Puma fixed blade knives. On Puma folding knives it is on the pushing spring. Enter this 5-digit number in the box below.
Is there a 3-digit number etched on your Puma knife (e.g. 105 RC)? Enter this 3-digit number in the box below.
Is there a 2-digit number etched on your Puma knife (e.g. 07 RC)? Your Puma knife was made in 2007.
RC = Rockwell C, it means that the knife was tested on its hardness.

Thanks Jerry, but no numbers anywhere on my knife, but I will email them with the address you gave me and see what they say. Terry

Re: Puma Rancher info
I think it might be a Puma from China. Germany has very lax laws around how knives are marked. "Germany" is not the same as "Made in Germany".

kj, I think you may be right, I have read where some of these were made in Spain also. I haven't heard about the China connection but it sure could be, waiting on response from the email Jerry sent me. It appears to be a quality made knife, but I have some Rough riders that are quality also. Terry
