Just a guess .
Some other members might have a better idea.
German made
J A Henchels (Zwillingswerk- means twins in english )
Most of the Henchels have two figures.

Grant is correct. That’s a “Henckels International” mark. Usually it’s “twins” (Zwilling), but IIRC the Henckels international is a lower quality line that has only one figure instead of two. The main difference between the two is that the “Twin” line has higher quality materials i.e. better steel. There is typically a substantial price difference between them.

I understand what you all are saying re' Henckels, but that whole knife is just shouting JAPAN!!! to me.

Did Henckels really ever make a knife that looked so poorly made?

No offense to its owner.

The Henckles International brand logo is just a little bit different. I found some info here:

A Google Image search for "S. M. Z. Knife".

https://www.google.com/search?biw=1600& ... 3NSoEzcdME

Look at the switchblades on the red background.

One of the images appears to be the same knife, or one like it. Image is from from eBay.

Here is a knife that has, I believe, poor Japanese construction.
Handle covers seem similar.

Not a Henckels logo of any sort and not a Henckels knife. I think it is an older Japan knife, ~ 1960's.

This image shows a clear picture of the single Henckel's logo side by side with the image on the OP. They may be similar but do have differences.

Certainly looks like "S.M.Z." purposely used a Henckels like logo to fool potential buyers.
