You are welcome Travis. Is it a linen Micarta ? I want to keep an eye out for a GEC with this same red Micarta, which could be either canvas or linen.

The 77 is a very nice jack knife. I used to have one but recently traded it for a stockman.

It is very nice, I was surprised how similar it is to a 78 double blade ::hmm::

The 77 and 78 are very similar, but different knives. Here are a few of mine side by side. The 78 has a rounded bolster 77 is more squared off. In hand, the handles are also more rounded width wise on the 78, with the 77 being more square.
15531080044897062408540832454402.jpg
The blade stock is ever so slightly thicker in the 78, likely in the 1/64" range. 77 is very close to flush in all 3 positions, 78 slightly proud at 1/2 stop.
15531082649843710164274312327443.jpg
The blade width if the 78 is greater on both main and pen. Different style of tang on the pens as well.

Came in an awesome red linen micarta as well.

All in, some of the best medium sized jacks in existence, imo.

Nice ones robbobus, I love the 77 and 78. Good assessment.
This flew in a couple days ago. Had to give it a while. See what I mean Sunknife? Anyway it's a great knife and concept no doubt. Great build, transitions, snap, feel, tight no wobble lock up, everything works like a charm. I like the wharn like you wouldn't even believe, just find the clip and the whole frame longer and heavier than I thought it would feel and I don't know, not me. There came with it a bit of bolster rub as you can see in the close ups, doesn't bother me, but does some people. Thank KnifeConnection for that, they had it in the tube barely wrapped in the wax paper and since it's a bigger knife it flopped around during shipping and had worn through the wax paper on the ends. The KnifeConnection had it flopping around in an oversized padded envelope so it traveled around in the envelope. So anyway, it has bolster rub and very hard to see, but I caught the beginnings of blade rub on the wharncliffe for all to see. I opened it a couple of times, both blades, took pics, never carried or handled. This is how it left KnifeConnection. Kind of lame by the factory and the dealers, not to put something in there so they don't flop around. I do anyway. If you're interested in this one with said issues fully disclosed, PM me and lets make a deal. I'll let you have it for a bit less than the dealers, just trying to recoup and move on, not for me, great knife but I know I'll never carry it. Otherwise I'll have to do business with the beast that is eeeeeeeeeeebbaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay. Let me know if anyone is interested.

Just got this in. 46 Whaler in desert ironwood. Can’t believe my luck. I was the only bidder on this the other night on eBay, and his starting price was very reasonable. I just love it when small sellers get ignored by the crowd.
This one is a good looking knife. Like it much better than the muscle bone version.

Trying to figure out what something will go for on eBay is maddening. That is just absurd.

GEC's can get ridiculous. I have tried to get mint 81 stockmans but every one I've tried to go after on ebay sold for at least 3x the original price, some up to 5x. They aren't worth THAT much. I would do 2x as much, maybe a tad more but that's it.

Things sell different every day. No way to predict sometimes. But the reason GECs sell for so much is because that's how much people are willing to pay. Huge demand is not their fault, and I've overpaid on a number of GEC knives and you know what? I was stupid for thinking that because they then proceeded to go up even more and if I ever decide to sell them, they will go for 2X, or 3X, or 4X what I paid so GEC is doing me a favor every day by growing their business demand. So shelling out the big bucks does sometimes pay off in a year or two big time. And look, Queen folded and Case is putting out low grade lame junk on all the runs I've bought lately and they don't even compare to GEC in quality or style, or innovative cover materials. And all GEC does is make knives like Case USED to make back before their 1980s runs, so really there is no other supplier of a knife quality and style of GEC. None. So of course the demand is high, the numbers low, and the demand and value will keep going up. This keeps coming up and so does the price of aftermarket GECs. But it's because they built a better mouse trap and we all love them and GEC should be commended. More and more knife people are coming over to them. Because they build the cooler knife. They keep the numbers low and the price keeps going up. If you ask me GEC is brilliant and should be taught in every class of economics, marketing, advertising, business etc. And the President should hold them up as a model for American business and success for the future and economic growth, restoring America's reputation for quality goods at a good price. Look at GEC, they were nothing 15 years ago, hadn't even opened. Now they rule the traditional knife world and for good reason. They make you a knife that will be worth twice or three times what you paid for it. Case isn't doing that for you. Neither is any other company I can think of. Chris Reeves included, or whatever company you want to name. Hats off and hail to GEC. I LOOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVE them.

Well said ivyman !
What is true for all collectible knives is that 'fads' come and go. By this i mean that a GEC 81 pattern might be high now because it has developed a 'following' or become a 'fad'. This will not last forever. In a year or 2 or 3 at the most, the 'fad' will move on to other GEC patterns and prices of the 81 will drop to a more 'sensible' range, still in demand but not as intensely so.
If there is a GEC pattern you like and right now prices on ebay are close to original, then now is the time to buy because it could become the 'fad' pattern of tomorrow.
And if the pattern you really like is very high right now, wait for a year or so and you likely will get the same knife for less.

Yes, well said Iman. Nobody is doing what gec is doing and I am a very satisfied return customer of theirs. I've been carrying my micarta 82 stockman since I bought it. Every time I use it I can't help but think of how much I enjoy it's quality and usefulness. It's a GREAT knife. I feel like this about all the GEC's I carry but lately the 82 has been top dog.

The 81 abilene stockmans were made in 2013, so far the only run. I think they will always be pricey, there's just not that many and it's such a good stockman. Sometimes you can get lucky but it's not the norm when they turn up.

The GEC site shows two 3 blade #82's, one is called "Dixie Stock Knife" and the other "Dixie Stockman". Is the only difference the year of production ?

Roland they are the same pattern so I'd say yes.

The only real difference between the two runs (aside from handle options) is the old northfields have slant bolsters. I wish they would have kept that feature on the new ones but the double lined bolsters on the recent nf's are still nice.

Agreed. The #81 Abilene stockman being so pricey isn't because it's a fad right now, its because they'veonly produced ~335 ever, 6 years ago. And considering they did #81s in '17, and a stockman #82 in '18, I feel it's safe to say it will be at least a couple years before any more #81 stockman knives are produced.
