Good eye. No that’s not a Case. First of all, that’s not Case jigging, so that alone rules it out. Any time you see a knife with a match strike pull purported to be a Case, you should be highly suspicious. Case did make a very few with matchstrike pulls but not many. Hard to tell from the pictures you posted but the blades look like stainless steel, which was also fairly rare during the Tested era, used on very few patterns.

I think this is the listing https://www.ebay.com/itm/CASE-KNIFE-VIN ... :rk:8:pf:0

I agree with what Ken said, plus the bolsters are too long and the blade tangs are too tall. ::td::

The original post knife certainly looks doctored up. The same seller has
this one also:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/CASE-KNIFE-VIN ... /292955971

Outside of being overbuffed, does this look legitimate? The two scales don't match 100% but I do not think this
is a disqualifying reason.

Thanks,

Bob

Bob, I’m not finding anything with that link. ::shrug::

Regarding the OP knife, I sent the seller a message yesterday advising that knife is a fake. Received a response saying “thanks I will make adjustments accordingly.” So far, nothing has been changed. ::disgust::

I don't like this knife, but my reasons are more in the subjective realm rather than things that I know are incorrect.

1. I think this might be meant to be a 5214 1/2 pattern. I don't like pen blade being in front of the main clip blade with both nail nicks facing the same way. If this were correct I would expect the clip blade to be sitting higher or the pen blade sitting lower with a small cut out in the handle and liner to access the nail nick. It bothers me that the nail nick on the clip blade is slanted instead of straight.

2. The wear on the stag handles (i.e., smooth stag) doesn't match the crispness of the shield.

3. The stag fits very poorly to the bolsters

4. The wallowed out areas around the handle pins look way too large.

Five days now since I received that reply from the seller. No change was made. Knife now has 3 bidders, up to $149. Sad.

The seller sh3275 has been added to my list of unscrupulous shysters.

I purchased a Tested XX from this seller. The knife is all wrong. Pitting on the springs and none on the blade tang. Was stated it was rough black scales but they are dark greenish brown bone. I brought these to the sellers attention. Said was a mistake on his end offered a full refund. I am keeping the knife as a reminder that not everyone is honorable in life...

Welcome to AAPK. Sorry you had that experience but at least you know now that there are crooks out there selling fakes. EBay is rife with them but there are good honest sellers there too. Stick around here and learn. Explore the site. If you have questions about the authenticity of a knife, or anything else about cutlery this is a good place to ask. Lots of nice knowledgeable folks here that will be glad to help. ::handshake::
