Case 6239 worth the punt?

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Case 6239 worth the punt?

Post by Twhite »

I was out today and found this Case with the number 6239 on the pen blade and Case Bradford PA
I really like the shape of the knife. The main Blade has been well used but maintained enough to take a good edge. The pen blade is in decent shape. Both blades are firm with no wobble.
Knife is 3-7/8” closed.

The scales on the other hand are cracked and missing some. I will clean it up and carry it.

I Got this and an older PAL Camp knife for $20

Any info on this model would be greatly appreciated. From what I found this knife is from 1904-1920? I know Zero about Case knives.

Thanks in advance.
Tom

Is it just me or is the shield upside down?

Nice knife. Hard to tell anything else from the pics provided.

Ok. I thought it might be. No biggie. I will clean it up and use it. I may have my dad make me some new scales. I just gave him some antlers last weekend. I will put the old guy to work. He is 81 and loves fixing knives.

Pertaining to pictures. Is the a link to show preferred pictures. What are you looking for picture wise. I would love to get more info on this knife. I kind of like the Sowbelly shape.

I really like that old knife, I would NOT replace the old Rogers bone. Find someone on AAPK to make a patch and stabilize the rest of the bone. Neat old knife. Also you could just put it away as is.

Harold,
Thank yo for your reply. I was really drawn to the shape and the scales.

Patching it sounds like a great idea. I like to carry what I have, so stabilizing it is the thing to do.

Where do I look to get a member to do that.

Rogers bone is special - I'd get it repaired! Read this older thread for appreciation of what you have! ::tu:: viewtopic.php?f=35&t=45098&hilit=Rogers. A few posts down on the first page is a history of Rogers bone.

Tom, check into the Knife Repair and Restoration forum here. You'll find posts like this one viewtopic.php?f=37&t=57370&p=652157&hilit=Books#p652157. Many of the knife mechanics here post there. You can send them a PM about fixing yours, or find tips to tackle the job yourself.

Did a little trade with Tom for his 6239 Sowbelly. Had a little repair on the bone. Left everything else alone.

I never figured the shield out. It seems upside down. It has never been off after it was installed in factory that I could tell.
