Help Me Identify This Knife - "The RAND Shoe"

Post by B1T »

I was at a thrift store yesterday and came across a small pocket knife. It was silver, very thin, had two blades, and says “The RAND Shoe” on the front. I really don’t know much about knife brands or vintage knives, but it caught my eye so I bought it.

Does anyone know about this knife? I can’t find anything about it on Google, which leads me to suspect it’s older than the internet. If need-be I can post a better quality photo sometime in the future.

Are there any other markings on the knife besides what's on the handle ? Perhaps a tang stamp at the base of the blade ?

Yes actually. I missed it at first, but I just noticed it says "Camco USA" on the larger blade. A quick google search brought me to this thread, which leads me to believe that it is a Camillus knife.

I still can't seem to find anything about a Camco/Camillus knife with the words "The RAND Shoe" on the front though. Any clues as to the model and/or year?

Camco was Camillus more affordable brand and made many knives for advertising. Not sure who Rand Shoe was but the knife was a little give away advertising knife. One of those little fun to own knives. Also, welcome aboard. Stick around and share your other knives with us.

Camco made a lot of advertising knives for a multitude of companies. Your best bet for dating the knife is to search for information on Rand Shoes. Just looking at the knife I’m guessing it’s from the first half of the 20th century but you may be able to narrow that down by learning about the company.

Looks like shoe company during the 19th and 20th centuries. Couldn't find too much on them, guess I'll have to dig deeper at some point. My OSINT skills are being put to the test here. I'll post any new information I can find.

Edit: Seems "The Rand Shoe" is another name for the "International Shoe Company", a branch of Furniture Brands International.

B1T, some times the discovery is as much fun as the item. Great research. ::tu::
