Benchmade balisong
Benchmade balisong
I'm not all that familiar with benchmade knives and even less familiar with their balisongs. I was given the pictured knife today, because the guy didn't want it and he knew I "was into knives". I know benchmade are good products, but my question is, how do I tell what model it is. I've checked their online catalog, but don't see anything similar. Could it be a fake? Any info would be appreciated.
Re: Benchmade balisong
I Don't know anything about BM Balisongs...but I have about 30 other BM knives. All of the knives I own have the Benchmade butterfly logo, on the blade. Is it on the other side of the blade (regarding your pictures)? Normally, under the butterfly...you will find the model number. There are a lot of cheap counterfeits, out there. Here is a Balisong picture described as a BM 35 (although it looks like 32 to me). All of my knives have the etch. I've never seen a BM logo stamped, like your knife...although I'm no expert. Someone else...will likely chime in.

Here is a pic of opposite side of knife. No model number that I can see.

I have a couple of Benchmade balisongs and both have stamped logos. I haven't seen one with separate handles as yours has though. I'm far from an expert on BM knives but the stamp(from what I can see of it looks OK. They have been heavily counterfeited though as was said before. Here are mine.

Again...I'm NO expert...but I'm just GUESSING...I've been wrong many times...but it doesn't look like it has some of the hallmark quality materials in the handles and finish of construction. Another thing I meant to mention...I can't tell from the pictures...all of my knives have the torx screws...like the example, in the picture I posted. Many knock offs use Philips or other cheaper screws.
EDIT: Ahh....knife7knut... thanks for posting...the stamped logo was one of my biggest wonders...but looks like that part could be good.
Over on the BF Forum...Benchmade engineers routinely look at pictures and give you answers...with relative certainty. If you go that route...let us know!

Re: Benchmade balisong
Like Doc B said all of my Benchmades have torx head screws. But I only have 3 of them. Terry

The early ones, Bailisong and Pacific, are high dollar items.glennbad wrote:It could be an earlier one...

I have heard that also. I think mine may be more "users", but I'll have to dig them out again.

Try "Arizona Custom Knives", search by maker(Benchmade), then start scrolling. They will show pics of past sales for several years. You might be able to identify a like picture. Also gives sold prices for reference. I just went through this with an early BM balisong. Good luck, I hope this helps. Taz

On Arizona Custom Knives, search item no. 179306 and 178776. Compare your blade grind. One should be like yours. You can open back to original listing to read details. Tom
