#62 Queen
Got this in the mail today along with the typed description that was on ebay. Never had one of these before, needs a little Mother's Mag, no etch left and someone did some strange moves on the blade. No blade loss but still strange.

Re: #62 Queen
QS, it is listed on a Queen chart, that I have, as a "Large easy open", 5.25 inches. It has a spay blade and the #53 is called a "Citrus Fruit" The 53s are 4 3/4" with a spear point blade. I have not handled one like this before.
Bruno, the sharpening marks on both sides make it appear the blade is hollow ground and the one that tried to sharpen it laid it flat on some type of abrasive. The blade doesn't appear to be hollow ground by putting a straight edge across the width of the blade, however it might be. Here's a couple of pictures of what I'm trying to say: Notice the edge and the top of the blade has similar abrasive marks and the pattern changes at the nail nick.

Re: #62 Queen
I have the #62 and was told it was a Granddaddy Barlow, but the bolster doesn't fit that.

While I have not been collecting long compared to a lot of you, in my observation the synonymous names Daddy Barlow and Granddaddy Barlow are only used for folders like the Case 6143 that are 4 7/8" closed and have broader blades . All the knives I've seen called those names have the Barlow's characteristic long right bolsters. For what it is worth, on a forgotten internet site I read a rumor that in the past these over 5" handled knives with a single long spey blade were used by grocery store produce workers to trim lettuce and other vegetables. The spear blades in Case 00 pattern Mellon Testers look better for taking core samples out of fruit.

Re: #62 Queen
nifbuf Thanks for posting the catalog photo. That is interesting, a skinning (or castrating) knife.
Re: #62 Queen
I notice that the catalog shot knife does not have a nail nick,
while the actual knives posted thus far do ....

Re: #62 Queen
OK, nifbuf. I see where all the #62s are hiding!
To answer Chris, the 3rd one down has no nail nick. I can't make out the tang stamps but it's interesting to note the similarity of the imitation Winterbottom handles over different years on the same pattern.
Nifbuf, what pattern # is the bottom knife? On the list I have I don't see any other knives of that length except for the 2 folding hunters, 44 and 39.
The 62 is new to me.

Re: #62 Queen
The bottom knife is a 2007 + or - production. I came out about the same tine the Schatt & Morgan file and wire patter did. Both were the same frame as he #62. Also see he old Schatts - Queen just reached back and used the original diee they bought from Schatt & Morgan.

Re: #62 Queen
What someone did to that blade makes me feel a little sick in my stomach. It looks as though they tried either a belt sander or drug it across a piece of sandpaper trying to change the profile. Put this in the category of “what the ——- were you thinking?”treefarmer wrote:QS, it is listed on a Queen chart, that I have, as a "Large easy open", 5.25 inches.
