What Schrade RARE knife do you have

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

This one is pretty rare I think. It is unused but has a water stain over the etch. Don’t know of a way to remove it without destroying the etch.

this Schrade Walden 818M arrived today. The only placeI could find a listing was in the 1955 salesman's price sheets. I can't recall slanted bolsters on anything but the Bucks that Schrade made. 2-3/4" closed ...Cracked Ice Celluloid

That's a dandy little thing Doug. I quite like the 2 3/4" stockmans, and I have just a few :D

There were a few cuts with slant bolsters, there is the 08883 which is a 4" stockman. There are others but that's the one I can always remember since it's my favorite knife ever.

Jay & Doug... awesome knives you have posted...
I'm hoping someone who knows the particulars about this knife can help me out here...
This week I picked up this Schrade I*XL Wostenholm, Sheffield, England Limited Edition Stockman... as the paper states.. this is the first knife the partnership produced with a limited run of 8,000... but with the bolster stamped with Serial № WG 001... does that mean this particular knife is the very first one?

That looks more like a presentation engraving to me. Perhaps the W.G. is Wally Gardiner of Schrade and that knife was presented to him...lacking any provenance it could just as easily be any other person with the initials W.G. If it was me showing the knife to someone else and telling a story, I'd probably go with the Wally Gardiner version. A good BS'er has the obligation to make the story interesting ::tu::

Ken, I can tell you with certainty that the WG does in fact stand for Walter Gardiner. He had the first knife of a new production run engraved for him. He has given a few to me over the years. That is a special knife. And yes it would be easy for someone to do if they wanted to.

Wow Doug & Jay... I was not expecting that!  Thanks for the info. The knife did stay local. The Ebay seller was located in Newburgh. I picked it up personally and did ask him about any provenance and all he would tell me is he knew the owner... probably someone Walter gave the knife to...

I forgot to mention that it is a hefty Stockman @ 4 7/8"... the largest in my collection...

The IXL Texas Stock Knife is a superb knife. I have a couple of examples but to own #001 that was Mr. Gardiner's knife is an amazing find.

This early 897UH is serial number S16617 and has a rare (I've never seen it before) tang stamp. Any additional info would be greatly appreciated.

Serial #s went from 1 to 100,000, I believe, then attached a letter "A" and another 100,000, then "B", and so on, through the letter S would make it a million plus.

I'm sorry, I should have made it clear that I don't own those knives. I bid on the 8814 two years ago and got out bid. It went for $96. The pictures of it are like knife porn. Enjoy. :D
