show your uncle henry's

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

bhuber,
::welcome:: to AAPK!
That's a fine stockman, a very popular style. If it wasn't in mint condition, it would be a great everyday carry.

Thanks for the welcome! That’s been my line of thinking on that knife. It’s the second one I’ve found this year but I sold the other one, which was much more used.

The earlier 897's have very nice looking delrin. If that was a piece of stag it would be primo.

That one is kind of an ugly duckling and I almost didn't bid on it. But I didn't have a Schrade Walden and the price was right.
I think about having Herman Williams stagging a slenderino from time to time. But I haven't acted on it yet. I should contact him about it. All I have to do is pick one that I already have and send it to him. ::shrug::

So, of course among all the wonderful, mint Schrade, I come up with the black sheep!
Someone did bad things to ‘ol Uncle Henry. This 227 came to me with both blades looking more like the edge of a saw. It’s been grindered and lost a tip on the main blade. Handles fine though.
OTOH, it was fifteen bucks at the swapmeet today. Naturally, it followed me home. I seem to be running a refuge for the old and ugly!
This is my first and only Schrade. Gotta start somewhere!
I’m too young to be this old!

Welcome to the Dark Side, Zoo! That knife will still go CUT. And the folding hunter has been one of my favorite patterns since Day One, or... um... a long time ago.

Cal, or anyone else: When did they move the nail nick on the 227 from the forward clip position to the more centered "peak" of the clip, as shown in zoogirl's pic above?

I can't answer that exactly, but I believe that every 25 OT (the Old Timer version) I have seen with a "Walden" stamp had the nail nick forward of the peak on the spine. And all of them with the nail nick at the peak were post-Walden (1973) knives.
