Please, can anyone help me find an 85 Rotten Banana Bone

Post by jdracing »

Hey all, don't post here often...I enjoy others post and the pictures....Especially the Vintage knives....

But I am really saddened to find that all the 85 Banana bones are gone....Seems like they're going to ebay
for crazy amounts of money....(scalpers)

I have the Beavertail(LOVE IT)
The Salmon, and desperately want to find a Banana bone...

Does anyone out here happen to have an extra?....I can Paypal,Postal M.O.,or possibly
even TRADE something....

Thank you,and Hope all had a Wonderful Thanksgiving......

As I posted in another GEC forum thread, the time from one of GEC's first-run dealers sending out an email that the 85 RBB was available to the time it was gone (yanked out of my cart in the middle of the payment process) was approximately 3 minutes.

That's not sustainable for the kinds of numbers GEC is producing these days. This wasn't a short-run TC Barlow or a run of mammoth-handled Vipers.

My suggestion? Ignore the lolly scramble. Reserve what you can and let the rest go. Let the flippers score on a few suckers at first. Then watch the ebay market dry up. The flippers will have to face the choice of holding a regular-run knife forever or dropping the price to sell to an inundated market.

That will bring the secondary prices back down to earth in the long term.

Or we can continue playing the "flip and rip" game with new GEC runs until they're selling from first-run dealers at custom prices anyway.

If we don't want to play the game as-is, we have to change the rules.

That's why I don't bother with GEC knives. They are over priced and only a select few can own them.I can't believe Your knife was yanked out of Your cart.Probably some high roller with an inside track wanted it.

JD, maybe the only more difficult to find than the Banana bone 85 is patience :)

My observation is comparable to Tsar Bomba for the recent GEC releases. There are the scalpers :x as you mentioned, but I believe there are also folks who aren't sure if they will like them or not who buy them quickly because there isn't really a chance to "shop" before they're gone. If you can wait a few weeks then I believe you will see a few show up at reasonable prices. The silver lining is you will have time to select one you like instead of dropping one in your cart and scurrying to try to complete your checkout process.

I agree, the prices on eBay will come down after some time. I’d set a limit that you are willing to pay up to and when you see it go for it. I didn’t do that with this last run of whalers and after watching eBay for a bit found that if I’d have waited I wouldn’t have had to pay as much. I was surprised to see the price tag on the rotten banana bone right out the gate though. But I guess I’m not so hot at picking what’s gonna be popular. Good luck though!

I would also suggest keeping a close eye on The Exchange at Bladeforums. Maybe subscribe to that sub forum. One just sold 45 minutes ago but the price has been removed. (I hate when they do that).
