Camillus #72 Question.

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Camillus #72 Question.

Post by New_Windsor_NY »

Camillus Gurus,
Did Camillus ever produce a #72 knife with NO brand/logo stamp anywhere
on the knife? But yet, "72" IS on the tang of the main blade.

I have lot's of 72s and clones but nothing like you've described. And I've never seen one like that. Got pictures??

Here are the pics. I don't see any signs of the tangs being ground down or any other unnatural damage.

Even more mysterious, this is a post 1976 knife (the last year they pinned the handles on). That knife is a real fumbuzzel for me. I don't even have a guess.

Jerry, the simplest explanation is that a single clip blade missed getting stamped, for whatever reason; stamping machine misfired, blade dropped on floor and swept up and mistakenly put on with the stamped blades, or another explanation entirely, it doesn't matter why, but the only ID on that model is the tang stamp.

There's no question that it is a Camillus 72. It just doesn't have a tang stamp. ::nod::

Oh no! Now there’s another elusive variation of the 72’s to collect, factory errors! Will it never end? Lol

There you go New_Windsor! Great investment. You can get JerryD and the Colonel into a bidding war over the knife. You can retire early! Or at least have a real nice vacation.

Since I just got this a couple of days ago, I'll hang on to it for awhile.
I'm already retired and where I live is a vacation in itself. :D

Be careful now. Camillus isn’t my primary area of interest, and I don’t really perfer knives that small. But there is something about the Camillus 72 that many of us find down right irresistible. The addiction will creep up on you.

It already has. I have a severe case (no pun intended) of pocket knifeitis.
I don't want to be cured.

Question has been answered but I’ll just toss in that I have an Ulster 58OT MEDIUM STOCKMAN that was my Grandfathers and my Fathers - it has no tang stamp whatsoever. I also have an NIB example with the tang stamp and they match perfectly except for the stamp - my guess has always been tang stamp step was missed in production. OH
