Ode To The 07

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Nice haul, jerryd...all are very good looking knives...and I'm glad that you finally got the RR White Jigged Bone LB Mini T with the Saxon Battle Axe Shield...that one's destined to become a classic collectible.

I'm still drooling over Lansky1's Grey 107W...this is the closest thing I have to it. Unfortunately, mine doesn't have the coveted wharncliffe secondary. So, the hunt continues...

I managed to pick up this pair of 07 Ultraviolet Mini Trappers...One with Spey secondary (6207) and one with a Wharncliffe secondary (6207W). They also have different shields, too...so, not quite a "matching pair" in every detail, but close enough for government work.

PA060010.JPG
Same goes for this pair of Winterbottom Bone Parker-Edwards. Obviously, they're not 07s (they're 55s), but they are Mini-Trappers just the same. The differences are pretty obvious, and yet, to me they do seem like a matching pair-- I'll let you decide for yourselves.

Love the Silver Script Shield...I feel it is perhaps the best shield design Case ever came up with.

I read an explanation once that described in detail exactly how it's installed (wish I could remember where...could've even been in an AAPK thread but I think it was most likely in an eBay description). Apparently, it's quite an intricate operation involving a high-speed, Dremel-like tool to cut the shape of the letters into the bone. I don't recall if it was done by hand, but I remember thinking at the time that that seemed extremely labor-intensive if they had to do that for each and every knife. And, while I'm sure they must use a template, obviously there's not a whole lot of room for error due to the small width of the letters; one very tiny slip could easily render the bone scale unusable. After the bone was prepped, a pre-made nickel silver shield was fit and glued into the cut-out.

I guess I has assumed it was done with a CNC machine or something more automated like that that could churn out perfectly cut bone handle covers by the hundreds in very little time. Maybe that is how it's done...I really don't know. But, I sure do like the Silver Script Shield, however it's done.

Ignoring Mr. Smarty Pants ~Q~ and his egger on, John.

This one came in yesterday's mail. I bought it because it's different and because it has a Wharncliffe secondary blade. Color is pretty true to the pictures and that is a genuine flaw on the right end of the tang stamp.

More beauties ~Q~.

Do you mind if I add today's arrival. It almost didn't get here because the temp mail carrier delivered to the place the next block over. Same house number, different street name. It's far from the first time that's happened but usually their mail gets delivered here. At least I now have the supervisor's phone number in my phone. Maybe a P.O. Box would be worth $96 per year (3" x 5.5")

Dang, jerryd...seems like you've been on quite a roll lately...picking up some real nice ones too. Good scores all around.

Unfortunate about the string of mis-deliveries, though...kinda undermines trust in the whole USPS system when the final delivery gets messed up. I have a PO Box and it still happens from time to time; either I'll get someone else's mail in my box or my mail somehow ends up in someone else's box. Apparently, the final delivery person is potentially the most important person in the entire delivery system or the weakest link (or both). I have made it a point to develop a good relationship with all the counter clerks at my PO (gave each of them a Kershaw LEEK and explained what's in most of the pkgs I receive). So now, whenever there is an issue with a "lost" pkg, they basically move heaven & hell to sort it out and locate it for me. Of course, I live in a fairly small remote village where everybody pretty much knows everybody, which is helpful. I'm sure it would be different in a PO that serviced a larger population.

Picked up this Antique Bone Mini T recently. I got it because it's the first and only Mini Trapper I've ever seen with grooved bolsters.

Just as I was winding down on new acquisitions, I happened to stumble upon this rare beauty and bought it immediately. It might even be a "Holy Grail" knife for me...one of those that satisfies my lust for Mini Trappers once and for all. I guess only time will tell.

Notice that the COA shows the pattern as IV207 SP SSP, but the tang stamp shoes a slight difference: IV207 SP SS. I wonder what happened to the missing "P" on the tang stamp?

I'm not too worried about the spousal unit since I've retained the services of the OCD Mini Trapper Monkey as my attorney. Being unrestrained, unrestricted and completely unfettered by any sense of ethics whatsoever, he can be extremely persuasive and difficult to argue with (sometimes he's even been known to resort to threats of extreme violence) whenever it comes to justifying and defending the purchase of a Mini Trapper...it's kind of his specialty. ::sneaky::
