That's an attractive handle material but I sure don't think I'd ever mistake it for green bone.

Notice the change in front of the shield. The pile side is just starting in the corners.

Looks very much like the knives from a recent thread concerning oil applied to the blade pivot area seeping into the handle covers. ::hmm:: May be more noticeable on lighter colored materials? ::shrug:: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=58704&start=15#p675972

Gino,
When it's new the bone is white. It slowly turns green. At first it's kind of pretty. Then it gets the color of fresh cow manure.

I think it 's caused by exposure to air. When it was new both sides of my knife looked like the bottom picture in my first post. The pile side was laying on a cushioned material and air couldn't get to it. Notice how discolored the other side is just above the shield.

I'm still not sure I know what we're looking at here . Do you think these knives have been re handled? I have a second cut burnt jogged bone knife but I don't think the knives with the bar shield came that way.

Natural bone turns green.I bought my knife new from a case dealer so I don't think it's been rehandled. There are some of these around. There is one for sale on this website. If I remember right it's Spencer Knives. Check it out and see if you think it looks like Burnt Natural Bone.
