Is THIS a #72?

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Is THIS a #72?

Post by Meridian_Mike »

Hello everyone....
I just bought this one (it's on the way). While looking at the pics I don't see a number on the blade tangs. I flipped thru a few pages of the #72 thread but I don't see a #72 that has a shield like the I am missing on this knife.
So, a couple of things here..... Is this a #72?
Has anyone got a shield they can sell me to replace the one i am missing?

Thanks y'all...

Yes Mike you have a 72. I am including a couple pictures of the shield you should have on your knife. If I am not mistaken the pattern number is not on the knife because it’s a scout knife. I could be wrong as I have been before....but I think I am correct.

Ed is correct. It's a 1047, the Scout version of the 72. The 1047's never had a pattern number on the pile side of the tang (or anywhere else).

Ahhhh.... OK, so it is a #72 but it is also a #1047.... LOL..... nothing confusing about that.

10-4....

So, now to the second part of my OP.... Does anyone have an extra scout shield hanging around their shop they would part with?

I thought I did, Mike, but after digging through my pile I discovered that once again my memory is faulty. Check with Dale or Glenn.

Mike I finally got out to my shop to look for your shield. Well I have everything but the one you need. I will see if I can locate one for you. Sorry it has taken this long to get back with you.

I really appreciate you looking and greatly appreciate your reply.
If you can find one that would be great. If not, don't worry.

Thanks again.

Mike, you may be able to expand your search for a shield a little. If I'm not mistaken Imperial and/or Ulster made a lot of the BSA 1047s for Camillus and also used that same shield on their standard 4-blade Scout knives. Here's an Ulster with what I think is the same shield.

Oh yeah.... I have been looking around for a $5 junker on the bay so I could rob a shield. Good point about that shield. I have to expand my view a bit.

Thanks!!
