S&M Heritage Series - Catalog pic vs. Actual knife
S&M Heritage Series - Catalog pic vs. Actual knife
I though it would be interesting to show a side by side comparison of an actual S&M heriage series knife vs the same knife in their 1903 catalog.
I only have two heritage series knives.
Take a look.

I think the increased thickness of the knife handles make for a more comfortable grip.

There’s a reason the reproduction knives so faithfully resemble the 1903 catalog cuts. David Clark, who owned the original catalog and published the catalog reprints was the man responsible for Queen issuing the Heritage Series.

I've got a couple and wish I could have them all. Excellent series of knives IMO. David Clark did well.

That's pretty impressive how closely they matched the original patterns. I wonder if Queen or David Clark had some of the original knives to use as examples or if they went by the catalog photos only.
I really like the concept behind the Heritage Series. I only own one of them, a Heritage Cattleman in Ebony wood, and I think they did a terrific job matching the original pattern from the catalog. There's something about it that makes it feel almost ancient even though it isn't.

Apparently additional Heritage Knife models were made since kennedy knives took his "[...] photo of all 7 of them [...]." Last fall I bought a new Stockman. They were a common offering on eBay so I assumed they had been made recently. I did not know Queen was trying to make exact duplicates of old knives. I just liked its classic styling.

My Cattleman is from the 2012 Heritage Series. I don't have access to my photos right now but here's a link to a thread about them.Modern Slip Joints wrote:Apparently additional Heritage Knife models were made since kennedy knives took his "[...] photo of all 7 of them [...]." Good post Bruno. I have the same 7 from the series that Kennedy knives posted pics of and am glad I purchased the set a couple years ago. I had first bought 3 individually but then couldn't locate the other 4. When I found a complete set of seven, new, and for a bargain price I jumped on them. Gifted the original 3 I had purchased to a few close friends. I like the old time style, the steel liners and pins, and the feel of these knives. I rotate them into my carry routine more than any other knives I have. My ebony clip blade one has weak pull and the scales don't match up to the liners very well, kinda like they have shrunk and the pen blade on the bone jack has lazy snap. The other knives are nice and make up for the flaws on the two though.

Re: S&M Heritage Series - Catalog pic vs. Actual knife
I’ve seen David’s display table at shows and he has had the original catalog opened to a page with original knives duplicating just about every knife.
I think he has divested himself of a good portion of his collection.
