Case trapper

Post by Ldp »

I just bought a 6254 on eBay. It was stated as carbon steel but turned to be ss. Great- my fav anyway but one thing I don’t understand- clip blade is ss but spey blade is ssp. What is the p for? This probably an ‘81 I believe. Any help is appreciated. Ldp

"SSP" is a designation that Case used to use for some stainless steel knives. These were stainless knives that had blades with a "glazed" finish and the blade edges were final sharpened by "polishing" on a pumice-coated wheel...so "SSP" meant "Stainless Steel with Polished edge".

The "SSP" was only used as part of the pattern number, not the tang stamp.
