Where can I pre-order a #46 Whaler?

GEC specializes in highly collectable and premium quality usable pocket knives. The company's USA manufactured knives have quickly proven to be a big hit with both collectors and users who seek quality American craftsmanship.

Anyone know how to predict the day these will be For Sale ?
And regarding production numbers, is this only known when GEC posts their yearly numbers ?
kj
On the 43 Collector Knives sent me an email when they received the notice of shipment from GEC. That was on a camel bone that I had reserved. Perhaps those who have a reserved Whaler can give us a heads up if they receive such a notice.

Yes, please do let us know.
I assume GEC ships out to their dealers all on the same day ?
Are the dealers asked to begin selling the knives on a specified date ? time ??
Or, should customer check every GEC dealer daily to perhaps get the earliest opportunity if one dealer is ahead of the rest ?
This is a bit like hunting: knowing where to go & when.

Collector Knives said in their reservation form that "Muscle Bone is a raw cut bone undyed." I'm assuming it will still be polished and hafted, so I suspect we'll end up with a nice, earthy, rustic look and possibly unique "defects" (which I like).

I think the folks who reserved the ironwood knives are getting theirs first. I"m just hoping for no reservation-related snafus after all the hype this run has received.

This is how the muscle bone was finished for the 2016 Rendezvous parts knives, no guarantee it will be finished the same.

Thanks for the pic, John! ::handshake:: It's pretty much what I hoped for from the Muscle Bone this year. With any luck we'll get something similar to that beauty. ::tu::

Your welcome, I think it would be great with a shield which they did not put on the parts knives, these knives were literally hot off the assembly line, they were coming out of the oil bath, put in tubes and carried into the store and purchased all within a few minutes.

Pics are coming up on the Muscle bone whaler... I was told usually when you see them on the site they are farther along than pictured... they look nice!

Hmm.

Not sure I feel great about the federal shield on that one.

When I pre-ordered, the dealer had posted the opposite information (propeller shield on bone knife, federal shield on wood knife).

It seems I picked the wrong one...

Hoping I get lucky on the bone handles at least.

On the site I read that it(muscle bone) had large "bomb" shield. I agree this to me is the federal shield... however I like it personally.

That may have been the case, come to think of it. But I definitely would think of a "large bomb shield" on a knife like this to be the elongated, more ornate bomb shield such as this one:

Paid for my reserve on the Iron Wood yesterday, expect it to ship Mon or Tues. Saw one dealer,Traditionalpocketknives.com,list them yesterday at 4:45 and they were sold out in 15 minutes.
I was pleasantly surprised at the price they came in at, I expected them to be much higher, 135.00 or so seems to be quite reasonable for a 2 blade knife of this size

How many of the GEC dealers had these for sale ? All, Most, only a Few ?
I did not receive any dealer notification which usually i do.
Hope there are more to come.
And thanks to JohnR for the 'heads up'.

I just checked all the dealers listed on the GEC site. Three had Whalers.
GEC is offering these for a relatively low price. The large toenail pattern usually is more expensive than other folding knives. Here they are actually slightly less expensive than some other patterns.
GEC could have priced these at $235 and they would have sold out just as fast.
I can only assume that this low price is from kindness, a "Thank You" to the loyal GEC customers from Bill Howard.
I can think of no other reason for charging well less than what the market will bear.

As far as I know KSF has not listed theirs yet and they don't take pre orders, I would look for them to hit their site Mon or Tues.

$200 added to a $135 item. Scalper for sure, kind of slimy way to make a living.
kj
Edit to add> I just emailed KSF asking if they would consider limiting Whalers to one of each handle material per customer.

Awfully happy to hear about the pricing of this run (though I expect the bone will fetch a $5 or more premium at most dealers). I do not like my chances of snagging an Ironwood or an extra Frontier Bone version, but I'm glad that I've got one locked in and I won't have to pay these mad dog ebay prices for this knife.

Glad to know the wood's out, the bone can't be far behind now! ::ds::

I would guess the bone will ship this week and be at the dealers by the end of the week, I reserved one of each and glad I did. I wish I had reserved more and been able to pass them along to friends, everybody has 20/20 hindsight.

The 3 Desert Ironwood Whalers on ebay right now are all owned by the same seller. He is a regular GEC/Northwoods flipper who always manages to score multiple knives when there is a 'lolly scramble'.
He either has a mole in GEC supplying him or he has a 'bot' employed.

Monday Morning: Heads Up: KSF has the #46 with D.I. handles available now.
I am posting this not to promote KSF but to help other AAPK'ers have a chance to get one of these as i suspect they will sell out quickly.
