Ivoryman wrote:Great story Barry, especially the bit about finding the tusk on a beach in Alaska and using it. Believe it or not, here's one of my favorites with three pieces of ivory I carved from a tusk found on a beach in Ekuk, AK on Bristol Bay, found by a very dear friend who gave me the ivory. He was out bank combing and spotted a piece of tusk. The color is great and goes all the way through, not like superficial bark. Deep, rich, ancient color made by Mother Nature and God and lots of time. Incredible stuff and so much better than man-made. Thanks for sharing a beauty and great story.
That is awesome. Wow are those scales deep. Wonderful color and your handy work is as well.

Evan is a gifted knife artisan. I hope one day to get my hands on a real-deal ESNYX custom. Incredible teardrop, Barry! ::tu:: I love that gunstock jack, too.

That "hectic" thing seems to happen fairly often at BF. ::hmm:: I wonder if they might keep more contributing users if things were a little calmer over there...

Anyway, glad to have you posting here for however long it lasts! ::handshake::

Barry you definitely have some of the very best GEC knives. For example, your White Owl, what amazing Snakewood !
Here is one of my favorites, a #85 with a saber ground spearpoint blade. Most have a full flat grind. The saber grind makes for a more 'dramatic' looking knife.

Love that Smooth Autumn Gold bone KJ, but can't believe you didn't put that white Elephant Hawthorne in here? Good score, great piece there, you interstate smuggler you. Good show, got one past the gestapo banners too. God bless the ivory that gets through the ban. That makes two of us this week.

Barry, the Snakewood is very attractive and the chain is a classy touch. ::tu::

I wasn't sure if modified knives were okay here but looking back through the thread there are a few

This was an early #23 in smooth bone with spey blade.

Now a re-profiled blade and handle.... Slicked up action ....lanyard tube added and 'lace' Sheoak scales. (All work done by yours truly)

Great looking knife Brumbly, didn't even recognize it as a 23. Great stump or old wood back ground. Sweet mods, one of a kind look. Congrats.

Thanks doglegg I'm pretty chuffed with it too.
When I first did it, I posted it on a Face Book site I belong to and got a message from one of the GEC Engineers who let me know they were in the early stages of planning the #43 release and sent me some drawings. He was a bit bemused that I had dreamed up a similar design from an old #23.

You took a cool knife and made it cooler, pulled it off, great mod and a coup. That wood handle is beautiful and you know when you see it it's not stock. Same with that blade profile. I like it, What would you call it, drop point or clip? Whatever, it's a great looking one of a kind look. Very nice.
