I watched that # 56 auction as well, had a low ball snipe but it was about $100 too low.
I actually prefer the look of this Clip blade over the 2018 Spearpoint blade for this frame.

Greg, that stag is so fine...best I've seen on any of the recent #56 releases...it more than compensates for a bit of a crotchity opening walk, IMO.

Ivoryman, I really like the stag on your #78 as well. Well done.

All this pretty stag is giving me a stag "Jones" or a contact high!

The gunstock w/ 'jackass' shield is one of a few made by GEC for Charlie Dorton. I used to have all three models, the 76, the 72 and the 65, but I sold the 76 and 65 off to fund my knife store. ::facepalm:: As luck would have it, I found another 76 (pictured) not too long ago and snagged it! Wish I still had the Hogan though... ::mdm::

How about a custom 're-work' of an existing GEC, this one a popular 85 pattern clip/pen modified by ESNYX Custom Knives in Sarasota FL.

Evan replaced the covers with some of his own hand-jigged bone, put on a custom shield and made it work slicker than whale s***! It is one sweet knife!

Evan doesn't do mod work anymore. Here's a sample of his current full custom work:
backpocket 1.jpg
This is a Lanny's Clip he made for me (Tony Bose Pattern):
lanny's one.jpg
Tony taught Evan quite a few 'tricks of the trade' at his shop in IL. Evan made this one for me with mill relieved SS frame, cpm35VN hand-rubbed blade, bronze blade pivot bushing, fluted bolsters, and mammoth ivory covers from a tusk off a beach in Alaska. The mammoth tusk was found by a dearly deceased friend and WWII war hero that was a navy pilot on the Ticonderoga through most of the major battles in the South Pacific, so the knife has some sentimental value already.

That is a FANTASTIC Lanny's Clip. It has the best 'flow' to it of any L.C. i have seen. Every Lanny's is a little bit different. This one has every aspect dialed in perfectly and they all flow together perfectly.
Barry i don't think it's possible for you to have a better knife than this Esynx L.C.
Thanks for sharing it.

Great story Barry, especially the bit about finding the tusk on a beach in Alaska and using it. Believe it or not, here's one of my favorites with three pieces of ivory I carved from a tusk found on a beach in Ekuk, AK on Bristol Bay, found by a very dear friend who gave me the ivory. He was out bank combing and spotted a piece of tusk. The color is great and goes all the way through, not like superficial bark. Deep, rich, ancient color made by Mother Nature and God and lots of time. Incredible stuff and so much better than man-made. Thanks for sharing a beauty and great story.
