I'm not a big fan of the collectable sets because they are so numerous and usually have a narrow target audience. Plus they are very rarely used so you will always have the same number of mint sets available so appreciation in price is somewhat iffy in my experience.

I think collector sets mean the most to the first owner, and their importance goes down with each subsequent owner. Eventually, they end-up at a collector that simply wants to fill a spot in a group of similar collector sets.

Am I correct that a populated dealer display with all the proper year and material knives would actually be worth considerably more than a collector set?

Thank for the info guys... if you can not tell I am really new to the knife collecting thing.. these type of opinions and info are exactly what i am looking for with these questions.. learning a lot in a short amount of time and hope to learn more
