Re: Elusive Trapper
That's a great looking knife and interesting trapper. I've seen several older Case 48 slimlines with only the spay blade and wondered about the purpose of it. It seems to start a cut on a critter to remove his hide, one would need a pointed blade, the clip blade, at least to begin the process.
What is your understanding of your new Western's purpose?

Re: Elusive Trapper
This blade is more of a drop point. Not a clip or a spey. I just liked it because it's different. After having it in hand I'm sure it would be a very effective skinner or general utility knife.treefarmer wrote:That's a great looking knife and interesting trapper. Im a huge Western knife fan! Your knives is a great example of an uncommon pattern. I am pretty heavy into deer hunting and process all of my own venison and I own dozens of Skinner's, modern and vintage. I have a Western BOA that I can get razor blade sharp in very little time. I have turned on many friends and family members to Vintage Western knives and always on the lookout for more. In my opinion , Western set the standard for carbon steel quality!

Re: Elusive Trapper
It is a version of a drop point blade and it also come in a version that has a liner lock much like a electricians knife or scout knife
I owned one of each somewhere around 20 years ago and like most of the knives I’ve sold I regret it
Nice knife Ken and thanks for showing it I haven’t thought about it in a while

Re: Elusive Trapper
Congratulations on obtaining one of your "hard to find" knives. I've never seen a Trapper with that blade - nice knife. OH

I have always liked this pattern too. Does it have delrin handles? If i could find one with bone or stag handles, it would be my every day carry knife. Nice knife. Mark.

I like that, it's like a trapper handle with a sodbuster blade.

If you don't mind me being nosey, it seems you were very intent on finding one of these. Any particular reason why? Is it part of a set or is it something that just really caught your eye the first time you saw one?ken98k wrote:Finally got it!

Re: Elusive Trapper
I have quite a few trappers but no Western brand trappers and none with this blade shape. This pattern caught my eye a few years ago but the price was too high. I see them occasionally with liner locks and racoon etchings on the blade but they're not as slim nor simple.XX Case XX wrote:If you don't mind me being nosey, it seems you were very intent on finding one of these. Similar to a sodbuster but less upsweep on the cutting edge and more drop on the back.KnifeSlinger#81 wrote:I like that, it's like a trapper handle with a sodbuster blade.
