Anybody Have Any Interest In This?

Post by RobesonsRme.com »

Sarah and I stopped into one of our favorite antiques shops today on U.S. 280 in Chelsea, AL

They have this all metal document chest. It's painted black kind of like the old Kennedy tool chests.

Looked to be in good condition, but I could not crawl around it to see. I had to move a very heavy table lamp just to get this photo.

All the flat drawers are just drawers, no partitions and probably meant to hold 8 1/2" by 11" papers. There is a finger sized hole the the bottom, so one could push the papers up for easy access.

These drawers would have to be lined with something to allow for knife storage.

I did not measure it, but it's shoulder high on me and I'm 5'11" tall.

I have no idea whether or not the locking mechanism on the upper right corner works.

Asking price is $2800.00, but I got it down to 2200, cash or check, no credit card.

I know this isn't for everyone and it's expensive. I know I cannot afford it.

However, I would be pleased to facilitate anyone's acquisition of this chest and I'd do it for nothing. ::tu::

I'd meet you halfway with it within a reasonable distance, but I'm not driving halfway across the country.

Shipping would, I think, prove prohibitively expensive.

It was just a thought.

What an awesome piece.
54 drawers plus the top 6 "indexing" drawers... you could easily store, and catalog 1000 plus knives.

Why does everything always come down to the dollar? :x

Great find Charlie. I hope someone can snatch it up. ::tu::

I know that particular store Charlie, and have recently admired that very piece!
My wife smiled and silently rolled her eyes. .....
I, too, cannot afford it, even if I had somewhere to put it. ......

The Provincial Government office in a small B.C. village near me has similar storage chests except they are made of wood with brass trim and line 2 walls of a large room. These are no longer in use but used to hold maps for Regional District properties (i.e. all private land within the geographic area) as well as maps to do with prospecting claims; i.e. they are long drawers. There could be as many as 1000. I will count next time i pass through this village.
