Can Anyone Explain This Photograph?

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Wow, that is hilarious. And yes it was possible to "photoshop" pictures back in the day. I have a group picture with my grandmother in it taken in 1930, and grandma had died in 1928. Enterprising photographers and processors could do things. This one looks like some kind of a movie prop critter, and maybe the cast or crew took this as a joke.

There is a Horror movie franchise called "Jeepers Creepers".

The plot is every 70 years a flying bat/man type creature emerges to feed. The 70 year cycle gives the creature the advantage of generations forgetting he exists. Even IF he is killed, that is just part of his natural cycle, and he comes back 70 years latter.

A constructed pterodactyl that's been hanging from the ceiling someplace (or maybe a movie prop). Note the rope loops attached to the leading edge of the wings at the bone points. More apparent on the left (your left) wing.

As well as a popular game fowl for sport trophy hunting, and before it was hunted to extinction in the late 19th/ early 20th century, the Pterodactyl was the traditional bird of choice for Thanksgiving dinner after the disappearance of the Dodo and the Carrier Pigeon. It was replaced by the Turkey primarily due to the relative ease with which a Turkey can be drawn by tracing the hand & fingers by elementary schoolchildren in the construction of Thanksgiving Day cards to their parents.

I thought that was common knowledge. ::shrug::

For several reasons, I do not believe the photo has been "PhotoShopped"

All aspects of perspective appear to be correct.

The men have their hands, apparently, on the leading edge of the wings.

Don't get me wrong. I, in no way, believe they are holding an actual pterodactyl.

I guess my question is this, is it a period photograph or is it recent and made to look like a 19th century photo?

The construction of the pterodactyl is impressive. Look at the head and the presence of what appears to be vasculature in the wing membranes.

Somebody went to a lot of effort to create that.

And, I was wrong, again, although it is not PhotoShopped, but created by a digital artist.

Did a Google Image search for "pterodactyl hoax" and eventually found this and the original author.
